Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27950 (Canary Channel) released
Microsoft has recently rolled out Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27950 for Insiders enrolled in the Canary Channel. This latest update incorporates a series of enhancements aimed at refining the overall user experience, with a particular focus on addressing various bugs and performance issues.
One significant change users can expect is the reversal of Advanced Settings to its previous "For Developers" configuration after updating to this build. Although this change may cause temporary inconvenience, it will be restored soon.
The update has also resolved several critical problems that were impacting Insider experiences. For instance, a glitch causing some Insiders to encounter errors (0xC1900101-0x20017 or 0xC1900101-0x30017) while attempting to install the latest build is now fixed. Furthermore, issues related to app preview window misalignment after display resolution changes and unresponsiveness of File Explorer's body during context menu interactions have been addressed.
Moreover, problems linked to certain apps freezing upon launching the Open or Save dialog and unexpected switching between normal initial views and "Show more options" in context menus when right-clicking on some applications are now resolved. Additionally, screen flickers experienced by Insiders while using browsers in recent Canary builds should be eliminated.
In terms of audio issues, users who encountered problems with their sound not functioning after the latest updates may observe that these have been fixed. However, for those still experiencing audio-related problems, it is recommended to submit feedback under Devices and Drivers > Audio and Sound in the Feedback Hub, ideally including a trace obtained using the "Capture the issue" option.
Another noteworthy improvement pertains to Dynamic Lighting, where the Dynamic Lighting Background Controller no longer consumes excessive CPU after unlocking machines due to a fixed issue. Moreover, Microsoft has conducted underlying work aimed at enhancing performance when gaming with game bars or overlays on top of games, particularly benefiting those with multiple monitors featuring different refresh rates.
Despite these enhancements, there are still known issues to be addressed. For example, an issue causing some Arm64 PCs to experience increased bugchecks (green screens) with the error IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL remains unresolved and is currently under investigation.
Developers also face a challenge due to PIX on Windows being unable to play back GPU captures on this OS version. A new release of PIX is anticipated by the end of September, which will likely resolve this issue. In the meantime, developers can use alternative solutions such as sending feedback or contacting Microsoft through the DirectX Discord server for assistance with private builds.
