Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27965 (Canary Channel) released
Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27965 to Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel.
One of the major changes in this build is the new layout for the Start menu. The top part of the menu now shows pinned apps, the middle part shows recommended apps and files, and the bottom part shows a new user interface that groups them by category. The Start menu can now be scrolled, making it easy for users to open their apps with the "All" option at the top.
There are now two new views: category view and grid view, which make this experience even better. Category view automatically puts apps into groups by type so you can get to them quickly. Grid view, on the other hand, uses an alphabetically ordered layout to make it easier to scan installed apps. In the "All" section, users will be able to choose between these two options. The build will remember which one they chose.
The Start menu's ability to respond is another important feature. Depending on the size of the screen, users will see either 8 or 6 columns for pinned apps, as well as different numbers of suggestions and categories. This design lets users change the layout to fit their needs, even letting them hide some parts, like the recommended section.
A mobile device button has been added next to the search box in the Start menu to make it even easier to use on different devices. Users can effortlessly expand and collapse mobile content on Android or iOS devices connected to Phone Link.
On larger screens, users will also be able to see 8 columns of pinned apps, 6 recommendations, and 4 columns of categories. On smaller screens, users will only be able to see 6 columns of pinned apps, 4 recommendations, and 3 columns of categories.
Starting with this build, .NET Framework 3.5 is no longer a Windows Feature on Demand optional component. This is another important change. Customers who still use the old framework should switch to newer versions of .NET.
Windows now comes with the Terminal app pre-installed. It has Edit, an open-source text editor that lets you quickly edit files in the app.
There are still some known problems that are being worked on, such as File Explorer crashing when moving files and Settings crashing when you try to obtain information about your drives under System > Storage.
Microsoft is also looking into problems with media controls not showing up on the lock screen and sleep and shutdown not working for some users after the most recent Canary builds.
