Windows 11 KB5065790 (OS Build 22621.5984) Preview released
Microsoft has recently released a new update for Windows 11 23H2, which includes various quality improvements to enhance the overall user experience.
The non-security update, denoted by KB5065790 (OS Build 22621.5984) Preview, is now available for all editions of Windows 11 23H2. It's essential to note that users should utilize EKB KB5027397 to update their systems to the latest version.
Once users install this non-security update, the KB addresses several key issues. These improvements encompass a range of areas within the operating system, including authentication, browser functionality, country and operator settings asset management, display kernel optimization, input method editor (IME) enhancements for Chinese characters, networking configurations, printer queue issues, and system services reliability.
A significant enhancement is seen in the Authentication section, where an issue preventing Windows sign-in screens from responding after entering a SIM PIN during mobile broadband connections has been resolved. Additionally, Microsoft Edge now operates flawlessly when running in Internet Explorer compatibility mode, even with certain same-domain redirects.
The update also addresses several display kernel-related problems, including one that caused systems to shut down unexpectedly when disconnected from docking stations during streaming sessions while using multiple monitors. Furthermore, the issue where some Chinese characters failed to display correctly when using the Chinese IME has been fixed.
In terms of networking configurations, users may now connect to shared files and folders without any issues when employing the Server Message Block (SMB) v1 protocol on NetBIOS over TCP/IP NetBIOS (NetBT). However, it's crucial to acknowledge that installing update KB5065431 triggered a persistent issue in this area.
Moreover, printer queue functionality has been improved, as viewing shared printers in Settings no longer causes the Print Queue user interface to malfunction. System services and reliability have also received attention, with an issue resolved that led to the McpManagement service appearing without a description on Windows.
It's worth noting that this update includes only new changes and does not contain any previously released updates. If users have already installed earlier updates, their devices will download and install only the new features contained within this package.
In addition to the KB5065790 update, Microsoft has also released the Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5066412) for build 22621.5983. This update focuses on enhancing the quality of the servicing stack component, which is responsible for installing Windows updates. The primary goal of SSUs is to ensure that users have a robust and reliable servicing stack, enabling their devices to receive and install Microsoft updates efficiently.
