Windows Terminal 1.23.20211.0 released
A new version of Windows Terminal has been released, bringing several notable improvements and bug fixes to users.
One significant addition is backported support for DECSET 2026 Synchronized Output from the Preview channel. This feature should enhance the overall user experience by allowing for more seamless output synchronization.
A minor but welcome UI tweak: caption buttons (the ones labeled 'Minimize,' 'Maximize,' etc.) will be dimmed if the Terminal window isn't the active focus point. So, if you've got multiple windows open and one takes center stage, it should help keep things clear without distracting you with bright button highlights in that background.
For users relying on Chinese or Japanese input methods (IMEs), compatibility has been restored. Hopefully, this clears up some frustrating text entry issues for those of you using these tools.
Stability is another big theme here. Developers have put effort into making cross-thread UI operations safer, aiming to prevent crashes and errors linked to certain background processes interacting with the interface. It’s all part of making Terminal less likely to just bite the dust unexpectedly.
Error messages have also gotten a trim. You won't see some annoying ones anymore, like the threading error during setup. And that big warning about pasting lots of text? That should stop causing the terminal to hang itself in that situation too.
We noticed an issue with processes not shutting down cleanly when one window gets stuck, and Terminal (portable or unpackaged versions) now handles exits better under those specific circumstances. Your sessions should close more reliably if you use these standalone setups.
The team identified a persistent bug causing XAML focus crashes and implemented a potential fix, aiming to completely eliminate this issue in the future.
Finally, for users running Terminal from its portable or unpackaged folders, it won't crash anymore because of stray Microsoft.UI.Xaml.dll files showing up in your environment path. And if you need to configure settings, the Cut/Copy/Paste options are properly localized
