Light Of Altair (PC) Review
Gamingheaven posted a review on Light Of Altair for the PC

Light Of Altair is a game made by two people with a budget price tag of $15. We love independent titles on Gamingheaven because quite often they don't suffer from restrictive publisher control and are free to explore radical ideas outside the confines of a big budget production. As SaintXi develop and publish the game is it able to offer something entertaining for the relatively modest asking price?

Asus Crosshair III Formula motherboard Review
TechSpot posted a review on the Asus Crosshair III Formula motherboard

Roughly a year ago we reviewed the Asus Crosshair II Formula, based on the Nvidia nForce 780a SLI chipset. This board provided those who were brave enough to pick up a Phenom processor with a stable platform that sported a number of impressive features such as Triple-SLI. At the time we said the Crosshair II Formula was a well designed motherboard that was let down by a power hungry chipset and sub-par processors.

But AMD managed to turn things around when they released the Phenom II X4 with models clocked at 2.8GHz and 3.0GHz. And now with the Phenom II X4 955 in their arsenal, AMD is finally starting to look like they mean business.

Now after much anticipation AMD has a processor that really deserves a quality high-end motherboard. The new Crosshair III Formula dumps the Nvidia chipset for the popular AMD 790FX and as a result drops SLI support for CrossFireX. This latest Asus motherboard comes stocked with just about everything in traditional ROG (Republic Of Gamers) fashion.

ArcSoft PhotoStudio 6 reviewed
ITReviewed takes a look at ArcSoft PhotoStudio 6

ArcSoft's PhotoStudio is a basic digital image editor designed to accommodate the needs of novice and intermediate users and some advanced users who simply want a quick way of touching up digital photos, getting rid of red-eye, and adding special effects. There are some really attractive and useful filters built into PhotoStudio, but the general editing, image management and output feature set has not grown significantly since 2005. The software therefore remains nowhere near the powerhouse that Adobe provides with Photoshop Elements 7, but it may suffice quite well for a wide range of digital photographers. A huge disappointment is the lack of templates for greeting cards, frames, borders, calendars, or even those for printing multiple photos on one sheet. A final kick in the teeth is the unhelpful online Help menu and its lack of a search engine. ArcSoft's PhotoStudio 6 is outdated and outdone by almost all other paid-for products. If your needs are basic you'd be wise to download GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program), a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. For those wanting it all, Adobe's Photoshop Elements 7 remains king.

Mainstream Graphics Card Roundup
Tom's Hardware Guide posted a Mainstream Graphics Card Roundup

When it comes to graphics cards, the upper crust of the mid-range is perhaps your best bet for snagging great performance at a reasonable price. In order to deliver the goods without breaking the bank, vendors usually equip their cards with enhanced cooling solutions or a bit of extra graphics RAM.
If you're only comparing 3D performance, the difference between these mid-range cards and those you'd find at the very top of our latest graphics charts is less than what you might think. While the GeForce GTX 285 may be the fastest single-GPU card around, a GeForce GTX 260 or a Radeon HD 4870 doesn't lag behind by much. If you can live with that relatively minor difference, you stand to save between $100 to $150 or more.

Thermal Paste Round Up
Bjorn3D posted a Thermal Paste Round Up

We as computer users, are always on the search for the best thermal paste we can find. The use of good thermal paste has become just as important as the heat sinks and or cooling devices we use to help keep the temperatures of our CPU's cool. Ever more so, we need to rely on our thermal paste's performance even more as summer is upon us. Well, at least for us Northern Hemisphere people.

Here at Bjorn3D, and into the dark dank mysterious Dragon's Lair, are going to look at seven different manufacturers, totalling up to eight different thermal pastes, and find out what thermal pastes meets the grade and which ones fail miserably.

A Seventeam V-Force ST-750P-AF PSU review
ModReactor posted a review on the A Seventeam V-Force ST-750P-AF PSU

As we have already mentioned before, recently we acquired some PSUs, and overwhelmed with joy decided to create a short series of articles comparing them all. Today is the turn of the third PSU in these series - Seventeam V-Force ST-750P-AF.

Seventeam , though quite unknown to users in Bulgaria is in fact one of the largest impulse PSU manufacturers in the world. Their products are aimed mostly at industrial use, but they do however manufacture PSUs for personal computers too. Today we're reviewing a product from the V-Force series of the company. It includes both modular and non-modular models, supplying power in the range varying between 550, 650, 750 and 850W. The particular model we have is V-Force ST-750P-AF – non-modular model rated at 750W. Its price is set at about 149$.

Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P Motherboard Review
HardwareLogic posted a review on the Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P Motherboard

At about $260 street, Gigabyte's EX58-UD4P sits somewhere in the middle of the X58 pack, but that's only when looking at the sticker price. A glance at the spec sheet reveals anything but a mid-range motherboard, and this one tilts heavily towards the high end. In fact, all that really separates the UD4P from Gigabyte's pricier X58 models are two more SATA ports, an additional LAN port, and slightly improved cooling, positioning the UD4P at the cutoff point before diminishing returns kicks in. But while the UD4P offers best-in-class features at a mid-range price (by X58 standards), will it follow suit with best-in-class performance?

MSI N250GTS 2D1G OC Review
Hi Tech Legion takes a look at the MSI N250GTS 2D1G OC

For gamers, keeping the GPU cool is of utmost importance and with only two (air cooling) options, stock or aftermarket, you will need to choose wisely before making an investment in a new video card. Let's face it, years ago if you wanted to game or overclock your GPU,you needed an aftermarket heatsink/fan combination. In the past few years, manufacturers have realized this and have been producing their own combinations to help alleviate the cost of purchasing an aftermarket cooler. The MSI N250GTS 2D1G OC is a video card with such a cooler, on this card you will not find the stock cooler that you may find on a NVIDIA reference board. On the MSI N250GTS 2D1G OC you'll find that MSI has replaced it with a four heatpipe heatsink and cooling fan. The MSI N250GTS 2D1G OC is a preoverclocked version of the 1GB Geforce GTS 250, clock speeds are set to 760MHz on the core and 2300 MHz on the memory.

Cooler Master ATCS-840 Case Review
Verdis Reviews published a review on the Cooler Master ATCS-840 Case

Cooler Master has always been renowned for their classically styled cases and this reputation was born with the first of the ATC (Active Thermal Convection) cases - the ATCS-201. Since then, some of Cooler Master's styling has wavered somewhat with a seemingly more beefed-up design found in the HAF-932.

Today we have the latest ATCS case released at a similar time to the HAF-932 which returns to the more classical breed of Cooler Master cases. The manufacturer will hope this particular enclosure can match the iconic level of some of their previous designs such as the Cosmos. However, can the ATCS-840 really match up to its predecessors? Let's take a look.

Olympus' latest E-620 DSLR targets users who are interested in something better than a budget entry-level DSLRs, that don't want to pay for an upper mid-range or semi-pro body. By combining high-end features in a compact body, Olympus addresses many of the complaints users had with the previous E-520 and E-420 models. eTeknix posted Noctua NT-H1 Thermal Compound Video Review

Thermal Compound or thermal paste is probably the least exciting part of any PC build, but on the other hand, is also one of the most vital. It sits between your CPUs IHS (Integrated Heat Spreader) and the base of your heatsink. You will usually find thermal paste on your motherboards north and southbridge coolers and graphics card cooling as well. Ever since the beginning of time, Artic Silver have been the market leader in regards to thermal compounds, with their Arctic Silver 5 selling by the bucket load.

These days, for a power supply company to be competitive, there's gotta be a 1kW or up model in there somewhere. This is the only 80 Plus Bronze certified unit in the range, and it features such cool things as modular cables with illuminated rings around them when you plug one in.

EVGA X58 3X SLI Classified Motherboard Review
Hi Tech Legion posted a review on the EVGA X58 3X SLI Classified Motherboard

The process of overclocking the Core i7 920 CPU on the EVGA X58 Classified motherboard was a fairly straightforward experience. I began with simple 5 MHz increases to the front side bus and running OCCT to stress test the overclock for 20 minutes. I hit a wall at about 180 MHz at stock DRAM and core voltage settings. I then began to boost the voltages to the VCore, the QPI core, the DRAM. With several different combinations of voltage adjustments and RAM timing and speed adjustments, I was able to establish a maximum overclock of 4.3GHz, with temperatures hovering around 80 to 85 Celsius. These temperatures are a little on the high side and I prefer stability and longevity to achieving benchmarks that could cost me a system. The CPUz and information on the stable 4.3GHz overclock are provided here. I did, however, maintain a stable 4.2GHz overclock that stress tested at only 75 to 78 Celsius, which is deemed as acceptable for benchmarking and longevity of the chip. All overclocking benchmarks will be performed at this 4.2GHz overclock. This overclock was achieved with a bus speed of 200 MHz, a RAM ration of 2:8 resulting in RAM speed of 1600 MHz, and a QPI multiplier of 16x. Voltages in the core were at 1.45, which required extensive modifications to the CPU heatsink and additional active cooling to the north bridge and to the 6 sticks of RAM. The cooling modifications are also pictured below to demonstrate what is needed to achieve this 57% overclock on air cooling. It is worth noting that there is more headroom to this chip with increased VCore voltages if there is a water cooling or more extensive cooling setup.

Let me introduce the Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P which comes with AMD 770 chipset (770 Northbridge and AMD SB710 Southbridge) and is AM3 Ready.

So get this I spotted this little cute Gigabyte motherboard still with 6x SATA, Gigabyte Ethernet, RAID, 4 DIMM slots, integrated audio, dual-BIOS and the entire Gigabyte enchilada of motherboards features for roughly 79 USD.

Here in Europe you can even pick them up at just over 60 EUR. Pop on a nice value AMD Phenom II processors (as yes it's AM3 ready as well) and you might have purchased a heap, seriously a HEAP of value.
