a problem with mechwarrior 3 pirates moon

using a microsoft sidewinder joystick and throtle does control motion. i was once told by a microprose technician that problem could be solved by deletig a particular file from pirates moon and replacing it with the complementary one from mechwarrior 3. i can't remember which file it is. can anyone help?
