Applied patch version 1.1 and the Direct3D options, but MW2: Mercenaries failed to launch. The system goes to a black screen and then kicks you back to the desktop. Windows95 and Windows98/ME compatibility modes were attempted to no avail.

Open windows explorer, open the activision folder on your C: drive. Open the mercenaries folder and highlight everything. Now right click on the MERCS Blue window looking icon and (NOT THE HORNED SKULL) and check all options in the compatibility window and run for 98/ME. Now unslect everything and double click on the same MERCS blue window thing. Mine fired up with a slow moving mouse but it worked.

google for nolfb (for graphic), sapucdex (for CD-sound) and VDM-Sound (sound). You have to install VDM-Sound. I think you need at least VDM-Sound.
Create a file merc.bat with following content:
nolfb
sapucdex
dosdrv
mercs
and it works. Even with the highest graphic.
