Messiah V1.2 should run well on Windows XP with SP2 but only with the following steps:

1) Make a shortcut of the MessiahD3D.exe on the desktop.
2) Set the compatibility mode to Windows 98.
3) Alternatively add -i to the commandline to disable the annoying intros.
4) !Start the game without the CD2/AudioCD in the drive!
> The game asks for the CD2/AudioCD, simply click three times on ok and the game starts (with no crash).
5) After the game started up, you can put the CD2/AudioCD in the drive.
6) To prevent crashes disable "Pre-load cached files" as sad above.
7) For performance reasons don't use T&L in the graphic options.
8) Sometimes during play when you go into the menu and back into the game there is an error reading from the CD2/AudioCD. Simply go into the sound-menu and turn the CD-music off and on again.

Windows 2000 sp4

My System: OS Windows 2000 sp4, Mobo Intel P4 Optimized, (Agp 4x) 512 mb Rbdram, Pentium 4 1.8Ghz, Geforce 6200A, (256DDR)Sound Blaster Live and IDE HDD formated NTFS.

I first installed the latest Nvidia (91.47) and Direct X 9c.

Secondly, my copy of Messiah was version 1.2 out of the box, but if you have an older one, a patch is available. I did the custom install with the high resolution textures checked.

The game crashes to the desktop before the menu screen appears, using the Direct 3D executable. Adding switches here did not help.

In D3D safe-mode, the menu appears, though after selecting new game and difficulty, it will crash to the desktop.

Before running this game under 2000 sp4, I played it on Windows XP home sp1 b.2600 with the '+!' command line switch, and with a resolution of 1024x768 in 32-bit colour mode with full screen anti-aliasing. It ran very nicely, bar a few random crashes to the desktop.

In Win 2000 sp4, with the '+!' and '-i) switches in place, my previous saves from running the game under XP worked. No crashes. Though the resolution is fixed at 640x480x16(16-bit colour) with sound and music (I have CD music disabled)

The resolution won't change, even if you change it in the video settings, it won't initialize in the chossen resolution. Apart from this, the game seems to run fine.

Sorry if this wasn't helpful.

Works, but requires specific settings. First update to the .2 patch, and then add +! to the commandline: 'MessiahD3D.exe +!'. Then set the app for 'Windows 2000' compatibility, and it should run.

Turning off 'Pre-load cached files' in the game settings may prevent many sudden crashes to desktop.

Does not run in full screen at all. Windowed mode has no audio, horrible framerate, and crash glitches.

Received the follow messages:
1) Runs great under my V3 2000 card and MX300 sound. Make sure to Insert 2nd CD
to hear sound/music in Intro
2) Installs/runs fine with max detail 800x600. Abnormally terminates when I try
to enable A3D support. After playing about an hour or so, you may get that
annoying "Virtual Memory Running Low" message, I've heard that
complaint >from a lot of people with different memory configs (my machine has
128 RAM and 300 Mb paging file). Also experienced crashes after the
character's death, hangups on save/load and "Messiah.exe has generated
errors..." messages on quit... looks like another very buggy game on the
market.
