I installed Microsoft's Windows XP Service Pack 3 RC1 on an HP Pavilion m7580n with Windows XP Media Center Edition.

I had all of the current updates already installed from Microsoft's Update Website.

After installation, my computer just kept rebooting over and over and would not boot into Windows XP.

I finally booted into Safe Mode and did a System Restore to a point before Service Pack 3 RC1 was installed.

My computer now works like it did before I installed Service Pack 3 RC1.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 RC1 does not work at all.

Microsoft has a reputation of NOT getting things right the first time. :-)

Same for me as with Dan. I installed it and my computer would keep rebooting. I had to format whole drive and reinstall from scratch.

This Update IS NOT for any computer running the Microsoft MEDIA EDITION 2002 or 2005 system. That update will only be available for these systems through Windows Update or Automatic Updates later in May. DO NOT attempt to install this downloadable version!! It will either not complete the install due to Registry violations or cause your machine to malfunction.

I got SP3 via online update. I have Windows XP Media Center 2002 with SP2. I experienced the same problem as Dan Jolley above. After SP3 was installed, the system would not boot normally to Windows. It looped endlessly. I booted to safe mode and did a system restore. I installed the latest edition of AVG (Grisoft AntiVirus) shortly before SP3. Did not remove AVG and try again. Who knows. Will wait for a while before attempting to install SP3 again.

Installed on my Dell Precision M70

After installing I had some serious problems:

- My wireless stopped working, no access points visable.
- Windows installer corrupted, no new applications could be installed.
- System performance was dreadfully slow

Avoid this update like the plague TERRIBLE!

I put this on my Gateway Laptop and now when I boot up there is nothing there except a blue screen. No icons..nothing at all. However, if I put the USB thing in the port on LT for my mouse, then the icons load but I can't get anywhere by clicking on them. This puts me in a position of not being able to get anywhere on my LT to remove SP3, if it is in fact, removable.

Hi everybody, I downloaded sp3 2 days ago, a big file about 533mb, have had no problems installing, my AMD based computer seemed to lap it up, no problems so far everything seems to be error free..Can't seem to work out why some people's machines work, and some dont... It sounds to me the main problem is how you guys have your rigs set up, I use my rig for music production only, and a bit of internet use... I'm going out an a limb here, it sounds like a driver conflict to me.. I have never had a problem installing any service pack, or anything like the problems you guys are having.

I have Windows XP with Media Center 2002, which I have kept up to date with the Microsoft Updates but I have now tried 3 times, wiht increasing care, to install Service Pack 3 and each time it has knocked out Media Center. I have not found a fix.

I installed SP3 2 days ago on 3 computers. My Dell laptop E1505 works fine, my Intel and AMD destop computers are frozen solid. I can boot up but I can not surf the net or open any programs or tools. I can not run in in Safe Mode either. I've heard that AMD is not compatible with SP3 but neither is my Intel desk top computer. I finally had to use my Windows XP disk and do a repair on Windows and updated Windows up to SP2. DO NOT INSTALL SP3.

Installed SP3 on my Gateway XP ME 2002 laptop. I did this to fix a problem with my "USB Device" found in Device Manager that was not working properly. So, it fixed that problem with my USB laser printer. But, it created a new one with my mouse that I haven't been able to fix. It's not rebooting, thankfully, but the mouse works for maybe 5 minutes and then it doesn't. I have to unplug the mouse and plug it back in for it to work. It's not the mouse, or the driver. It is the USB drivers for sure. I've uninstalled SP3, printer problem still solved, but new mouse problem not. Still trying to fix it. I will report back.
