I and many others have had a problem with the speed that Resident Evil is running on XP and modern hardware with the game playing as if it is in fast forward speed. But I have discovered that it is all to do with the graphics card that you are using. I was running it on a 64mb geforce MX420 and the game was too fast to play. I simply uninsatlled my graphics card and reinstalled my integrated 8mb graphics drivers. The game now runs in correct speed, so basically it doesnt go well with modern graphics hardware so use older or integrated graphics.

Also before whilst using my MX420 on XP the game froze when the conversation with Barry in the dining hall but now it doesn't anymore. Maybe a coincidence, I don't know.

There is a little trick which can be done to get RE1 working under xp or newer systems. Don't click the setup icon, click launch icon with the picture of rebecca on it, making sure you have selected 95 compatibility mode. Even though it comes up with and error if you bring up task manager and end the error task, it will ask you what graphics card to choose. Now you need to do this very quickly before it ends the task, quickly choose the first graphics card then select ok, after that quickly choose the directory you want to install to, wholaa! the game installs. :)

The setup is available only if you choose win95.

However you won't be able to launch the game because of the graphics card error.

Since the game asks to choose what graphics card to use to play it, nomater what card you choose, the game will not run!

If somebody could help with this!
