This product works under WXP SP1, but not under SP2 as of this writing. Here are HP's comments:


Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.


I gather from your email that the computer does not detect the scanner
after the installation of Windows XP Service Pack 2.


I understand and appreciate your concern. However, the product is
currently not supported under Windows XP SP2 and both Microsoft and HP
are working together in co-ordination to resolve the issue.


The limitations of a product exists because when the product
was introduced in the market, the supporting technology was not
so advanced as it is today.


However, the troubleshooting steps I have provided below are capable
of resolving this issue in many of the cases. I would like you to
be assured that we will put in the best of our efforts in order
to resolve the issue. Please follow the instructions given below to
resolve the issue:


* Uninstall Windows XP SP 2.

* Uninstall Scanning software.

* Reinstall Scanning software.

* Reinstall Windows XP SP 2.

* Restore default settings for the Internet Explorer.


I am providing the detailed steps below. lease follow the steps given
below
in the order they are listed to resolve this issue.

=== Uninstalling HP Scanning software ===


Step 1: Disconnect the scanner from the computer system


1. Shut down the computer system.

2. Disconnect the scanners power cable.

3. Disconnect the interface cable (USB, parallel, or SCSI).

4. Turn on the computer system.


Step 2: Uninstall the HP scanning software


1. Click Start, Settings, and then Control Panel (In Windows XP, click
Start, then Control Panel) to open the Windows Control Panel.

2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

3. Select HP scanning software from the list of installed programs,
and click Add/Remove.

4. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to uninstall the
drivers.


Step 3: Delete all of the remaining files installed by the HP scanning
software


1. Double-click the My Computer icon, click View, Folder Options, and
View. Place a dot in front of Show All Files and remove the check
mark in front of Hide File Extensions for Known File Types. Click
Apply and OK. Close Window.

2. Go to Start, Find, Search, Files and Folders. Type the names
listed below in the Named line and C:\ in the Look In line, then
click Find and Search:


a. hpsc*.* then click Edit, Select All and delete them.

b. Scanjet*.* click Edit, Select All and delete them.

c. *.tmp click Edit, Select All and delete them.

d. hpsjbmgr*, delete

e. hpsjclas.dll, delete

f. hpsj1695.dll, delete

g. hpsj32.dll, delete

h. hpppt*.*, delete

i. Precisionscan, delete


3. Close the file search window to return to the Desktop.

4. On the Desktop, double-click the Recycle Bin icon.

5. Click File, then click Empty Recycle Bin.

I would recommend you to download and install the latest software of
scanner for Windows XP from the URL below.

1. Double-click 'sj662en.exe'. This is the downloaded driver file
Follow the screen prompts to install the scanning software.

2. After the HP Scanjet scanning software has completed installing,
shut down the computer system.

3. Reconnect the scanner to the computer system using the USB,
parallel or SCSI interface cable, then plug in the scanners power
cord.

4. Reconnect the scanner power cable to the scanner and power outlet.

5. Restart the computer system. The New Hardware prompt will appear
upon restarting and install the necessary drivers.

2. Click to open 'Tools' menu.

3. Click on 'Internet options'.

4. Click on 'Advanced' tab.
