Works without any changes, but sound is choppy and mouse is sluggish. I was able to solve both problems using VDMSound and mousectl. Runs fine now.
I am running the original dos version.

Made it work. What follows is a batch file I had to create to make it work:
cd\(VDMSound Folder)
dosdrv.exe
cd\(XCOM3 Folder)
xcom3_cd.com
mouse2kv 640 480 8 8 "xcomapoc.exe SKIP"
xcom3_cd.com
pause
The directory changes are easier than copying VDMSound and Mouse2kV into the program folder, so I wrote it that way. Note that Mouse2kV's invocation is what actually starts XCom3; the "skip" command line option there is not optional. If it's not there, your computer will try to load that ancient video player and show you the intro, which will crash.
XCom3_CD.Com is something I found on the Internet, written by a Russian who calls himself Alex-God. It's easy enough to find. The same goes for VDMSound and Mouse2kV, which are both priceless utilities anyway.
I tried adding FakeCD to the mixture; it crashes. The CD has to be in the drive to make this work, unless you can find some kind of hack job that changes all that. I didn't try very hard.

It says my computer meets all requirements except that this game requires 20 files/20 buffers, and my system has 40 files/0 buffers. I don't know how to create buffers or if that will even solve my problem.
