11 high-end DDR3 memory kits, reviewed

Manufacturers such as Corsair, Adata, and Team are flooding the market with memory kits that are incredibly fast... in theory. But are these DDR3-2800 kits any good? Based on our test of 11 memory kits, they end up falling short of our expectations.

Recently, more and more memory kits with very high default clock frequencies have been brought onto the market: we no longer bat an eye at DDR3-2666 kits. DDR3-2800 used to be exotic, but can nowadays be bought with relative ease.

The latest XPG v3 series has some visible changes to the design and its heatsinks. It is also the highest frequency DDR3 memory released by ADATA. We have not had an ADATA review for a long time so I am even gladder that we can present the latest memory series of this really popular brand.
Stay with us to find out how much the 8GB ADATA XPG V3 DDR3-2933 memory kit has to offer besides the great looks that we can already see on the front page.

ASUS Maximus VII Impact Review

Last year ASUS Republic of Gamers team brought us their first Mini-ITX based motherboard and we were mightily impressed. Fast forward to 2014 and with the introduction of Intel’s Z97 chipset, the ROG team are back again with their second instalment of this maximum performance, no compromise design.

Maximus VII Impact is ASUS’ latest Intel Z97 motherboard which targets enthusiasts and gamers who require small form factor. This Mini-ITX motherboard is packed with innovative features which can be found on full-sized ROG motherboards. Impact features five exclusively designed vertical ‘daughterboards’ that provide power, sound, fan control, WiFi/SSD, ROG IO buttons – so even though there may not be a lot of space on board itself, these features are still included.

Be Quiet! Silent Base 800 Review: Cool, quiet and roomy PC case

Although this is Be Quiet!'s first case the company not only applied what it learned about high-quality cooling and fan solutions in the past, it also brought in world renowned case experts. The Silent Base 800 was designed in-house from the ground up emphasizing form over function with a goal of achieving the best cooling performance possible at ultra low noise levels while still offering ample space for high-end components.

Chronology Review

Last month, a unique little puzzle platformer called Chronology made its way to Windows Phone. Chronology wowed us with its time-traveling mechanics that allow players to travel back and forth between time and even stop it, all in the name of solving puzzles and saving the world. It also features beautiful art and music. Denmark-based developer Osao Games recently released a Windows 8 version of Chronology, and has even been thoughtful enough to make it an in-app purchase. I took advantage of that and played the Windows Phone, Windows 8, and Steam versions of the game (the latter is a separate purchase), in order to bring you this in-depth review.

Corsair Gaming M65 RGB Gaming Mouse Review

The Corsair Gaming M65 RGB gaming mouse is hardly the first computer mouse with multicolor lighting. It's nowhere near the oddity of the K70 RGB keyboard, the first keyboard with individual customizable per-key backlighting. The M65 RGB is the very least complements the Corsair RGB keyboards both are unified under the same control software allowing a sharing of macros and cross mode switching, they both have multicolor lights, and they both incorporate aluminum into their construction.

ECS LIVA White Edition 64GB Mini PC Kit

Today we are taking a look at a very small computer from ECS called LIVA. On hand is the new 64GB white edition model which sports an ultra-low powered Intel Bay Trail-M SoC for a completely silent solution. As impressive as LIVA’s compact and silent design is the focus here is on price and a very small price it is...

At the start of July 2014 a new record was set for the worlds smallest fully functioning Windows PC as Elitegroup Computer Systems, better known as ECS, released the LIVA. Measuring just 118mm wide, 56mm tall and 70mm deep the LIVA had a volume of just 0.46L and weighed just 190g.

Intel Haswell-EP Xeon 14 Core Review: E5-2695 V3 and E5-2697 V3

Moving up the Xeon product stack, the larger and more complicated the die, the lower the yield. Intel sells its 14-18 core Xeons from a top end design that weighs in at over six billion transistors, and we have had two of the 14C models in for review: the E5-2695 V3 (2.3 GHz, 3.3 GHz turbo) and E5-2697 V3 (2.6 GHz, 3.6 GHz turbo).

Lenovo N20p Touch Screnn Chromebook Review

Chromebooks seem to have found their place in the market, especially in the education segment, and shipments have increased significantly. The latest statistics show Chromebook shipments jumped 67 percent in the most recent quarter and are on track to double compared to last year. Now that Intel and Google have joined forces to further the Chromebook platform, companies such as Lenovo (and others) are expanding their Chromebook offerings.

Lenovo’s N20 and N20p Chromebooks are the company's first Chromebooks targeting consumers (previous Lenovo Chromebook models are geared toward the education sector). The N20 gives users all of the features and the thin and light form factor one would expect from a Chromebook while the N20p takes things a step further by adding a multimode design that gives users the ability to use it in Laptop and Stand modes, which can be handy to show off the N20p Chromebook’s touchscreen display...

Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV Review

This brings me to my next complaint, which is the rear 5.25" bay. Having this bay is still very necessary and the fact that the optical drive still has plenty of life left in it. In fact, trends come and go, but the certain design choices are still relevant in future use. Until all software comes on USB sticks, the optical drive will not become obsolete. I'm glad Phanteks has left the option for a 5.25" bay, even if it's not in the correct place. This issue I have is very similar to the I/O ports where placement of the chassis comes increasing hard to think of places for it to sit. I feel the design team could have also found a way to place the bay in the front, even if it was just an optional setup. Of course the front panel design would have to be changed, but it would solve two problems that should be considered when buying any chassis.

Tesoro Tizona Elite TenKeyless Mechanical Keyboard Review

Greetings and salutations everyone! I do not know about you, but I love the idea of mechanical keyboards. They are just such wonderful devices that can make even the most trivial of wordsmithing jobs sound like a symphony of angels. It has been said that angels were not only tech gurus but also 1930s journalists, and I am sure they are. Today we have a special treat from Tesoro, a producer of fine gaming equipment for many years, featuring the Tizona G2N Mechanical Gaming Keyboard.

Now the last review I wrote on this site was about a gaming mouse, so it is only fitting that we cover the other half of the proverbial gaming equipment marriage. We will take a look at just how well the Tizona can hold its own when it comes to any and all games that rely heavily on swift keyboard action. Of course no one owns all of them, so I decided to stick to a few from my own personal collection. Oh yes, as you probably saw in the title this is, in fact, a combo! Both items are sold separately, but believe me when I tell you they make a lovely couple. So, that said, let us press on to the review!
First, a heartfelt thanks to Tesoro for providing us with the above sample, and be sure to check out their website: Tesoro Tec

TRENDnet TPL-4052E 4-Port Powerline 500 AV Adapter Review

When it comes to ways one can connect their computers to the Internet, most people know of two ways; one being through the standard wired LAN port, and the other wirelessly through a Wi-Fi router.

These two options are most prevalent in today's computing world, for both consumers and businesses. We know that wired connections are the best in terms of overall speed and latencies, those who play online multiplayer games can attest to this, as they need lower ping rates (which wired connections provide) to have the smoothest online gaming experience. Those also streaming HD media through their network can also attest to wired connections offering the best speed and latencies, this means less buffering and less lag.

On the flip side with Wi-Fi, it's the convenience of no wires that attracts people to use a wireless router instead, so that we can connect to the Internet virtually anywhere our home with a Wi-Fi adapter. No one wants to be running 100 or 200-FT Ethernet cables to the next room in order to have Internet, I used to do that back in the day and it was both inconvenient and downright ugly.
