Alienware Aurora R5 Review

Meet Dell's compact, potent and upgradeable desktop gaming PC. The Alienware Aurora has been around for about as long as we can remember and serves as a means for Dell to deliver high-end gaming PCs that pack a performance punch. Said machine has undergone numerous transformations over the years, and the latest iteration, dubbed the Aurora R5, is the best yet.

Prices start from as little as £799 and Dell has high ambitions for its revamped gaming desktop. Going by the accompanying marketing material, the Aurora R5 is designed to play into the hands of virtual reality and 4K gaming, though don't expect such excellence in the base specification. £799 will only get you a Core i3 processor, previous-generation GeForce GTX 950 graphics and one of those old storage devices with spinning platters and moving parts.

Cooler Master MasterBox 5t Review

A mid-tower chassis for gamers taking the red-on-black approach. Cooler Master is expanding its range of chassis solutions with the introduction of the MasterBox 5t. The name sounds a little clunky, yet we've been impressed with the firm's recent MasterCase efforts and we're intrigued to see whether or not the more affordable MasterBox can keep up the good work.

Priced at £75 and arriving in UK stores starting today, the new addition is essentially a tweaked variant of the existing MasterBox 5 (£60). This time around Cooler Master has opted for a 'gaming' aesthetic, with a red-on-black colour scheme and an angled exterior designed to appear more aggressive.

MSI RX 480 Gaming X 8G Review

When you look at the work MSI has done over the past several years to put the MSI Gaming brand out into the market, it is interesting to see that work bare fruit. Looking at the performance curve of the RX 480 Gaming X 8G, I found that the card does what is expected of it and more. A custom PCB using an all-digital VRM built around MSI's Military Class IV companents allow the card to run more efficiently while delivering a high level of performance for the installed hardware. The RX 480 Gaming X 8G is a factory overclocked video card. No surprises there! As a factory overclocked card, it is equipped with a boosted clock speed that is not the highest available on the market. That being said, it also retains that clock speed under load without throttling due to a thermal or current induced spike. This was a problem I saw while working with the Red Devil RX 480 that I have not seen on either of the MSI RX series cards I have tested.
