A Short Guide to Motherboard Parts and Their Functions

The motherboard is the most important component of your PC. If you crack your motherboard or one of its connections malfunctions, its curtains for your PC. Unfortunately, motherboards also seem like a mysterious and magical entity to those who arent tech aficionados. With so many parts, pieces, and components, figuring out each individual parts purpose can seem like brain surgery. That is, until now! Read on for a comprehensive, albeit basic, guide to your motherboard! Motherboard: An Overview Below is the picture we will use to illustrate the simple components of a motherboard, the MSI H81-P33.

AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Processor Review

Back when AMD launched their Ryzen 5 processors earlier this year it was the first time we saw a 6-core desktop processor in the mid-range mainstream line. At this time Intel was still on quad-core parts on their Core i7 and Core i5 SKUs. Of course just recently Intel launched their 8th Generation Core desktop processors, which do included both Core i5 and Core i7 6-core SKUs. So it seems the playing field has leveled a bit, with Intel basically being forced to add more cores to their desktop processors to catch up with AMD. So now as buying season is upon us we can give you a clear picture oh how all of the current processors stack up against each other as we just got a Ryzen 5 1600 in to review. This 6-core, 12-thread processor has a base clock of 3.2 GHz and boosts up to 3.6 GHz, it is fully unlocked as well. Let’s get this chip on our test bench and see what it can do!

AMD Threadripper vs. Intel Core i9 CPUs Clock for Clock

Until the release of Intel's High Core Count (HCC) CPUs a few weeks ago, we had no real idea of how Intel's high-end desktop CPUs competed with AMD's high-end desktop CPUs clock for clock. While we had the 10, 8, and 6 core Skylake-X parts, we only had 12 and 16 core Threadripper CPUs (of course we now have an 8-Core Threadripper part). We now can compare the highest core count Threadripper CPU, the 1950X (16 cores and 32 threads), against Intel's second highest i9 Skylake-X CPU, the 7960X (16 cores and 32 threads). Both CPUs take full advantage of the major technologies their series offer, both CPUs can overclock to 4.0GHz on all cores, both CPUs can overclock memory to 3200MHz, and today we put them head to head in a blowout. After we ran all of our benchmarks, we used the 1950X as a baseline and compared the percentage of overall performance, gaming performance, productivity performance, power consumption, and finally price.

MSI Z370 GODLIKE GAMING Motherboard Review

We recently saw Intel launch their 8th Generation Coffee Lake CPUs, and to use one of those CPUs you will need a Z370 chipset motherboard. All the major vendors have released Z370 chipset motherboards, but none of them went all-out with models that would be considered pinnacle creations within their own right, except MSI. MSI brought out their top of the line GODLIKE series at launch, and it totes some technologies that are brand new, such as Killer's xTend technology. Let's take a look at this heavily loaded, top of the line MSI Z370 GODLIKE GAMING motherboard.

Samsung C49HG90: decadent thoroughbred in 32:9

With a diagonal of 49 inch the Samsung C49HG90 immediately catches your eye. Everyone that sees this monitor with a 32:9 aspect ratio stops to admire it. Still, this monitor has more to offer than imposing size. For example, it is one of the first HDR-monitors in our test lab – and that is only the tip of the iceberg.

Some time ago this gigantic model in Samsung’s brand new gaming monitor line-up was presented. Visitors of the Hardware.Info Magazine anniversary day were the first in Europe to see it, back in July. Still, it took quite some time before we received a test model, but it is finally here now.

Sengled Element Classic LED A19 2700K 9W Smart Bulb Review

In this review we're going to check out an A-19 style LED light bulb that has a Zigbee radio inside, so that it can be controlled by popular home automation controllers. Typical LED bulbs have gotten very inexpensive lately, with high quality bulbs costing just a couple bucks. That the manufacturer, Sengled, can offer what looks like a decent quality LED bulb with a Zigbee radio inside for $9 with Amazon Prime free shipping, does seem rather impressive.
