Asus ROG GX501VI Zephyrus 120hz IPS (GTX 1080 NVIDIA MAX-Q) FULL Review

Our recent preview of the Asus ROG GX501VI Zephyrus laptop was frustrating (https://www.kitguru.net/lifestyle/mobile/laptops/leo-waldock/asus-rog-gx501vi-zephyrus-with-nvidia-max-q-technology-exclusive) as we weren’t allowed to discuss performance, frame rates, temperatures, clock speed or battery life.

The good news is that the Nvidia NDA has lifted on Max-Q technology and we can now talk turkey about exactly is going on inside the GTX 1080 Max-Q and how that affects game play and the way the laptop performs.

ASUS Zephyrus With GeForce GTX 1080 Max-Q Gaming Laptop Preview: Thin And Beastly

NVIDIA's Computex 2017 unveiling of the new GeForce GTX with Max-Q Design technology for laptops was presented with the usual charismatic polish and enthusiasm that the company's leather-clad CEO, Jen-Hsun Huang is well known for. Frankly, it seemed a little too good to be true. In one hand, Huang held a legacy 10-pound boat anchor of a gaming notebook, while in the other he held the new ASUS ROG Zephyrus, a sub-5 pound machine that's just 17.9mm thick.

Extolling the virtues of the new ASUS notebook powered by a GeForce GTX 1080 with Max-Q Design technology, he pointed out that the new machine had 3 times the gaming performance of the old one (powered by a mobile GeForce GTX 880) at half the weight and 1/3rd the thickness. It was a stark contrast to be sure, and a bold claim, and you know we're the type to put bold claims to the test...

Biostar releases B250 mining motherboard

Meant strictly for cryptocurrency mining, since we can't think of any other situation where you would need a B250 Express chipset motherboard with 12 PCIe slots, the Biostar TB250-BTC Pro has a couple of other tricks up its sleeve, including a matrix arrangement of the PCI-E slots which gives enough space daughter cards and should result in more stable signals to and from the board and the devices, aka graphics cards which are happily "digging" for cryptocurrency.

Cougar Panzer Review

With the Panzer, Cougar has yet another case in its portfolio. This tower costs almost 80 Euro and for this kind of money you get a well-built case with a lot of space on the inside as well as an aggressive design. Like the bigger brother Panzer Max, the new Panzer comes with a PSU cover and a good list of features like two solid tempered glass panels. Furthermore this case is compatible with watercooling system and 360mm radiators.

Drobo 5D3 5-bay Thunderbolt 3 storage solution launched

Designed to facilitate optimised, protected creative workflows. Drobo has launched a new product into its Direct Attached Storage (DAS) portfolio. The new 5-bay Drobo 5D3 storage solution uses Thunderbolt 3 connectivity and offers a 2X performance boost beyond what the award winning and popular Drobo 5D can muster. Thanks to Thunderbolt 3, the Drobo 5D3 can offer much more than storage related functionality, for example it can also work as a dock providing further Thunderbolt / USB ports, and connect up to 2x 4K monitors. Up to six Thunderbolt 3 devices can be daisy chained and there will still be enough power to (slow) charge a laptop.

Drobo 5D3 DAS Review (Thunderbolt 3)

KitGuru has reviewed a handful of Drobo products in recent years and today we present our analysis of their latest Thunderbolt 3/USB C DAS called the Drobo 5D3. Drobo are still working on finalising Thunderbolt 3 Windows support so we were asked to review this particular sample on an Apple computer – specifically their latest generation laptops which feature Thunderbolt 3 ports. Apple were generous enough to send us their highest specification Apple MacBook Pro 13,3 unit, priced at just over £4,000.

Toshiba XG5 NVMe SSD Review - 3D BiCS 64-Layer Flash Shines

Flash memory, at the consumer level, came to the forefront in late 2007 and has changed everything we do, without most understanding , or caring to understand the reason why. Its advance has changed our world and we do things every day that somehow touches flash memory in some way, shape or form. The easiest example might be a quick look at your smart phone and wondering why it is more powerful than the typical home PC just a few years ago. The latest success in the world of flash is 3D NAND flash memory, 64-Layer memory in fact. This memory provides the consumer with incredible performance, value and storage. The Toshiba XG5 1TB NVMe SSD contains Toshiba's newest 3D 64-Layer BiCS memory and our report will examine Toshiba's newest memory, as well as their newest NVMe controller to go along with it.

Toshiba XG5 NVMe SSD Review: Strong Performance With 64-Layer BiCS 3D Flash

At Dell EMC World a few weeks back, we gave you a glimpse of an unnamed Toshiba NVMe SSD that featured 64-layer BiCS 3D flash memory. We couldn’t reveal much about the drive back then, but Toshiba eventually lifted the veil, and revealed a new family of drives dubbed the XG5.

If you're unfamiliar with the technology, Toshiba’s BiCS flash memory employs a three-dimensional (3D) stacked cell structure that is designed for high density applications, but it also offers higher endurance than typical 3D NAND flash memory.

Toshiba's NVMe XG5 series specifications are rather impressive. The drives will conform to the standard M.2 2280 "gumstick" form factor and offer sequential read and write performance of up to 3GB/s and 2.1GB/s, respectively, over a PCIe 3 x4 interface...

Western Digital My Passport SSD Mini-Review

Flash-based external direct-attached storage (DAS) devices have evolved rapidly over the last few years. Starting with simple thumb drives that could barely saturate USB 2.0 bandwidth, we now see high-performance external SSDs. The full performance from these new crop of external storage devices can only be realized using the USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface. Western Digitals My Passport SSD is an external SSD with a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C interface. It caters to the mainstream market and comes in three capacities - 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. In this review, we take a look at the 1TB version.
