WinCIH has proved us that every hardware that can be accessed and modified through a software has to have a hardware protection. Nowadays it is theoretically possible to damage graphic cards, SCSI controllers, mainboards, even new generation CPUs through software. (It is also practically possible, if you can get the necessary information from the manufacturer). Nobody can guarantee you that your graphic card or your CPU will not be infected with another CIH version (most of the graphic cards can work without a BIOS in standard mode, so there is a possibility of recovery, but not Celeron because CPUs are not hotswap - you cannot just replace and update the microcode like BIOS). That´s why we have to get used to the antivirus software and keep precautions.
