30-Way Graphics Card Comparison On Ubuntu Linux 14.04 LTS

After this week already seeing how the open-source graphics drivers supplied by Ubuntu 14.04 LTS allow Radeon Gallium3D to run at ~80% of the Catalyst Linux driver and how open-source graphics still struggle with older hardware, our latest testing of the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS development version that will be released next month leads us to benchmarking 30 different AMD Radeon and NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards under this popular desktop Linux distribution.

ADATA Elite CE700 Qi Wireless Charging Station

ADATA is brand synonymous with memory and storage solutions. For more than a decade they have established a strong relationship with their customers that consists of average consumers and business professionals around the world. With constant innovation and a determination to produce only high quality products that will exceed consumer expectations, ADATA will continue to be at the forefront of our culture’s technological growth.

Anyone that keeps up to date with their technology news can already see that most manufacturers are targeting the mobile device segment no matter the relevance to their core product stacks. Mobile devices have become such a critical part of our everyday lives and I for one still have a hard time fathoming how our culture was able to survive without things like email, instant messaging, or even mobile computing. We are a culture that constantly has our eyes glued to our phones and tablets to get through each day.

AzzA XT 1B Full Tower Case Review

The case I have for review today is a new design called the XT-1. Similar to the Solano 1000, this is described as a full tower case with dimensions that place it more in an extended mid-tower category. It is available in either a black/red or white/blue color scheme, denoted by either a B or W in the model number. AzzA touts the XT-1's cooling ability with four included fans and support for dual 120mm radiator, graphics cards up to 340mm in length, a tool-less design with included hot-swap drive bay and removable/exchangeable front and top grills.

BitFenix Colossus M MicroATX Computer Case Review

Finishing up a run of new cases based on the Prodigy, BitFenix has started shipping their Colossus M. Taking its name from one of BitFenix’s first full-tower enclosures, the Colossus M inherits the original’s distinctive lighting and combines it with the familiar internals of the micro-ATX Prodigy M. Offering a different approach from the smooth lines of the Phenom and the airflow of the Prodigy, the Colossus M wraps an angular, soft-touch shell around familiar internals while adding a few new tricks in the process. Have they saved the best for last? Benchmark Reviews has the micro-ATX Colossus M on hand (model BFC-CLM-300-KKLS1-RP), so let’s take a closer look at the unique traits that define this mini-Colossus.

EVGA GeForce GTX 750 1GB SC Video Card Review

EVGA has released a very interesting graphics card called the GeForce GTX 750 Superclocked 1GB. This card is factory overclocked with a 1215MHz base and 1294MHz boost clock! That would be about a 19% increase in core clock frequency and no change on the memory clock when compared to the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 reference design. Sure, you are still missing 20% of the CUDA cores on this model, but can the higher clock speeds make up for the disabled GPU tidbits and give you GeForce GTX 750 Ti performance in a GeForce GTX 750 video card? We got our hands on the EVGA GeForce GTX 750 1GB Superclocked graphics card and will be figuring that out today...

Icy Dock TurboSwap MB171SP-B Tray-Less 3.5" SATA Hard Drive Mobile Rack Review

Welcome to the wonderful world of an office job! You will be enjoying such perks as: Regular 9 to 5 hours, your own 6x6 cubicle workspace, plenty of TPS reports, and the 15 year old company owned PC. This PC will be the only way you are allowed to access the corporate network and comes fully equipped with 1GB of DDR2 RAM, an Intel Pentium 3 CPU, and enough dust inside the tower to choke a wildebeest. You want to be the model of a good employee, getting those TPS reports done in a timely manner, but you spend 40% of your day waiting for things to load! It is in this time of desperation that you hatch a plan.

Finishing your work at home sounds foolproof in theory! You can finish up all your short term jobs and even get a great deal of progress on those long term projects with your speedy i7 processor. You won’t have to waste precious minutes waiting for documents and webpages to load and you can finally show up your smug coworker Gary...There’s only one problem, you need access to the secure company intranet. You don’t want to take the whole tower home since that is exactly the thing you are attempting to sidestep in the first place, but if you just take the HDD it should solve all your problems. You realize shortly that opening and closing the tower twice daily is taking up quite a bit of your precious time each day, if only there was a quick and clean way to easily manipulate your HDD without the tediousness of opening and closing your tower on a daily basis…

Intel 730 Jackson Ridge 240GB SSD Review

Today we are looking at the latest Solid State Drive from Intel, the 730. This 2.5 inch drive uses a specially qualified 3rd generation Intel controller, the same 20nm NAND flash memory that was used in the S3500, alongside an optimised firmware. Intel have overclocked the controller by 50% and the NAND bus has been tweaked by a further 20%. How does it stack up in 2014?

Intel Core i7-4770R (22nm Haswell) Review

Which is the best all-round consumer desktop processor you can buy today? It would ideally need to be strong in the CPU department, ship with the latest technologies, and have an integrated GPU that can play many of today's games at a full-HD resolution.

AMD is likely to concede that its APUs aren't as powerful as those from Intel for CPU work, especially in instances where an application only takes advantage of a single thread, but will point to the industry-leading performance of the Radeon-infused integrated graphics in both games and applications that take advantage of OpenCL.

Intel's chips are better for CPU-side processing while AMD is stronger for gaming seems to be a prevalent Internet meme, though observers note that genuinely high-quality gaming can only be achieved by, if possible, using a discrete video card.

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Ultrabook Review

The original Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga made headlines with its unique hinge lid design that allowed the lid to be flipped completely over turning the laptop into a tablet. On top of that the design made for some other useful modes as well. Lenovo is back with the brand new Yoga 2 Pro, which is one of the best Ultrabooks that I have seen to date. Lenovo has kept the same lid design, but has made the unit thinner and lighter. On top of that the hardware inside has been upgraded and Lenovo has added a QHD+ display giving users 3200 x 1800 is screen real estate to work with. Is this the Ultrabook to have this year? Read on as we find out…

MSI Radeon R9-290X Lightning Review

Bigger better stronger and faster, this review will cover the MSI Radeon R9-290X Lightning, this graphics card is considered the beast that rules them all ! With a PCB redesigned from ground up and usage of only the best components (high current chokes, International Rectifier PowIRstage, DirectFET chips, tantalum capacitors) MSI designed to design something really special. The factory overclocked product screams performance all over and with that TriFrozr cooler it is dressed to impress. The 2816 counting Shader processors based Hawaii chip will get paired with 4 GB GDDR5 memory running along a 512-bit memory interface. The card will clock towards 1080 MHz but is clocked at reference clocks on the GDDR5 memory. Hmmm, I just catch your attention ? Yeah I figured that much, let's go and check 'r out shall we ? So what does a Hawaii GPU bring into the garphics cards ? Oh what about 6 Billion transistors on a 438 mm2 Die, 512-bit Memory bus with 4 GB - 5.0 Gbps GDDR5 memory, Ultra HD ready, 5.6 TFLOPS of compute performance. Not bad for keywords, eh? AMD also has been focusing strongly at gaming in Ultra High Definition (UHD), so this will be a focus in our review as well. Will we be able to play the hottest games at that whopping 8.2 Mpixels at a 3840x2160 resolution @ 60 Hz.
The product is fitted with the TriFrozr cooler which features a total of three fans. Two of the fans to the left and right are large 86mm black fans, while a smaller yellow 70mm fan rests right in the middle. The yellow fan also has a somewhat denser fin arrangement. The fans can be programmed independent from each other. For the heatsink itself MSI is using a large dual fin-stack heatsink connected to seven 8 mm-thick heat pipes. The card has a regular and a LN2 BIOS for liquid-nitrogen cooling based overclocking.

My Kronoz ZeSplash Smartwatch Prototype Review

The best made watches have been created in, you guessed it, Sweden. So how about a smartwatch? My Kronoz was founded back in 2012 and is a Swiss-based company that manufactures, designs and develops products that enhances the increased mobile, connected and digital lifestyles of today. In April 2013 they released their first two smartwatches; ZeBracelet and ZeWatch. This company is still in its early years, but so far from what I've seen, they have some pretty amazing stuff. In this review I will be discussing a prototype that hasn't been mentioned as of yet on their website, but was on display at CES 2014. I introduce to you, ZeSplash.

Plextor M5 Pro 256 Gigabyte Review

With the M5Pro, Plextor have an SSD in their portfolio, which is based on a very well performing and well-known controller from Marvell. Other than that Plextor have optimized the firmware towards maximum performance as well as high endurance. With this drive up their sleeve Plextor wants to steal some market share from their competitors and we're certainly curious how well a job the company did.

Reeven Justice RC-1204 Review

My experience with Reeven certainly leaves me with a positive feeling. I was not familiar with Reeven products, but the Justice RC-1204 gets the job done and looks great while doing it. So what do I like about it? To start, I like the size. It is not so massive that it smothers you motherboard. Nevertheless, it is large enough to handle the heat of a mild overclock, which is nice. Next is the way the fan attaches to the fin stack - I like the four plastic clips. Sometimes the usual metal clips can be a pain, but this new refreshing style of plastic clip gets my attention.

Steelseries Siberia Elite Gaming Headset Review

I have been looking forward to reviewing this headset for a long time; and now I finally have a Steelseries Siberia Elite Gaming headset in my hands.

I have always enjoyed listening to music. I cannot imagine a world without music anymore; without music I would go crazy. Imagine watching a movie or playing a game without music; or perhaps spending a whole day without any type of music: iPod or MP3, radio, internet,... It would be boring as hell. That of course is just my opinion.

As an avid gamer, I love to have a solid pair of speakers or a quality headset; because if you play a long online session or if you are being sucked up in the story of an RPG, the audio experience is really important as well.
