More AMD Trinity Reviews

Posted by Philipp Esselbach on: 10/03/2012 09:13 AM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

Here another roundup of AMD Trinity reviews. This time from Benchmark Reviews, Techspot, OCC, Phoronix, and Vortez.

Benchmark Reviews: AMD A10-5800K Trinity Desktop Processor
Right on track, well after Ivy Bridge, AMD has released their second generation of Accelerated Processing Units in the form of the
Trinity series A10-5800K and the A8-5600K. Last week, we brought you a preview of these two APUs just to give you a taste of their gaming performance
and some of their specifications. Today, at Benchmark Reviews, we are going in detail for a full work-over of the A10-5800K APU.

Techspot: AMD A10-5800K Trinity APU Review
AMD has continued refining its Fusion offerings since launching the first APUs early last year. Just four months ago the company launched Trinity for mobile platforms -- arguably where its APUs provide the most value. Now, AMD is finally prepared to offer a desktop version, which brings a new socket and a new high-end chipset. Given that Piledriver improved Bulldozer's power consumption, we expect Trinity to be more efficient than Llano, while Cayman's VLIW4 architecture should boost the GPU's speed -- or so we hope.

OCC: AMD 2nd Generation A10 5800 & A8 5600 Desktop APU Review
The A85X chipset is equally impressive with its range of features and possibilities with eight SATA 6Gb/s ports, the ability to drive three monitors from the motherboard using the integrated graphics, the ability to double your graphics power with a $50-$80 discrete card to work in tandem with the on-die graphics and the list goes on. The CPU half of the die has been improved but is not going to set the world on fire and against Intel it is on par with the i3s. It leaves me wondering why the L3 is missing in Trinity, and what the 8MB of L3 will mean to Vishera.

Phoronix: AMD A10-5800K "Trinity" APU On Linux
While some information with Windows-based results for AMD's latest-generation "Trinity" desktop APUs have surfaced in the past few days, this morning the full embargo concerning the latest AMD Trinity hardware expires so full details and results can now be shared. In this article are the initial Linux test results of the AMD A10-5800K Trinity APU using Ubuntu at Phoronix.

Vortez: AMD A8-5600K Review
The latest line of A-Series APUs come laden with new features all aimed at delivering a seamless graphics rich experience at little inconvenience to the end user. Coming in with an updated 'Northern Islands' based Radeon HD 7000 series integrated GPU that uses the VLIW 4 architecture, Turbo Core 3.0 for both CPU and GPU, aimed to reduce power consumption while giving the user peak performance.

The biggest change is in the x86 architecture. Displacing the four K12 cores found in the Llano APUs we find four 'Piledriver' cores. 'Piledriver' is the direct successor to the 'Bulldozer' architecture and spells a new era for AMD and the direction that their future technology will take.
