ASUS Strix 7.1 Headset Review

Sometimes you really need to ask yourself “what’s in a name?”. Seeing a name like Sennheiser, Beyer Dynamics or Grado will immediately equate with audio excellence…..but not always so much for the gamer. While many assume that good audio is simply that, the demands of gaming are vastly different than the demands of the audiophile. ASUS has been at the forefront of computer audio on both sides, and are appealing to the high-end gaming market with their new Strix 7.1 headset and external soundcard. Featuring full physical 7.1 surround, dedicated headphone amp and ten drivers, the Strix 7.1 headset is outfitted to deliver unparalleled gaming audio.

AVM FRITZ!Powerline 546E WLAN Adapter Review

Powerline network adapters may already count quite a few years in the market (i used my first set well over 5 years ago) but the main consumer base has just now begun to learn of their existence and as expected most network equipment manufacturers have recently focused their efforts in the release of models featuring 1GbE connectivity. We've reviewed such models already and although we're quite satisfied with their performance we do feel that they leave much to be desired especially in terms of features and available settings. Devolo is amongst the very few such manufacturers that have already tried to improve on that area by releasing powerline adapters with Wi-Fi capabilities but again i can't honestly say that we were overwhelmed with what they had to offer (at least the models we have reviewed and/or used so far). AVM aims to change all that however with the highly anticipated FRITZ!Powerline 546E model.

Master Windows 10 Updates (How To)

Windows 10 brings a host of new changes and among them is the fact that Windows Updates now are mandatory, you cannot turn them off, and that it can take advantage of Peer To Peer functionality. Both these features does have some good thinking behind them. Automatic updates will finally maybe make sure your computer illiterate friend or family finally have an updated OS instead of finding them with about 300+ of security patches waiting to download. Google has done this with Chrome OS and Chrome for quite a while.

Peer To peer means that you can get parts of files from people closer to you and if you for example have several computers in your local network it should only have to download the updates to one computer and the rest then get the files from that computer.

There are however also downsides with this. While the updates are set to only run while the computer is idle there still is the risk that an update will download it the wrong moment botching up something important you are working on. There also is the risk that the patch is faulty meaning that you cannot wait when a update is released to see if anyone reports an issue. Peer To Peer also means that you will received files from other users meaning that if, or maybe when (this is how it could be done, another old example, the latest scare), someone manages to break the security there is a small risk that you could get unwanted files, virus/malware, that way.

MSI GE72 6QF Apache Pro Review

Gaming on-the-go is an ever increasing leisure activity and while some desktop computers are easy to transport to events the notebook still retains a stronghold on portable gaming. In order to match, or even better a desktop computer, it’s essential for a gaming notebook to feature the very best hardware. Many brands fail to update their notebooks with the very latest technology, but one company which are keen to keep up with current trends and technologies are MSI.

It was only a few days ago that MSI announced a large selection of new notebooks featuring the newly released Intel Skylake processors and today we have the pleasure of taking a look at the GE72 6QF Apache Pro. GE72 is armed with Intel’s new Core i7-6700HQ, 16GB DDR4 and NVIDIA’s GTX 970M, so we’re expected good things from this mid to high-end notebook. On the subsequent pages we’ll be putting GE72 through its paces to give you a definitive verdict.

New TiVo Bolt 4K DVR Skips Entire Commercial Breaks

Today's world of DVR's all allow you to skip ahead 30 seconds but this isn't always the best and easiest way to skip through all of the commercials and you are also subject to still viewing those commercials on the screen as you skip through them. TiVo is looking to change that with its new TiVo Bolt 4K DVR and with a single press of the button skip the entire commercial breaks! TiVo will automatically tag the start and end of commercial breaks so viewers can instantly skip over that entire section to get back to their favorite show or movie.

Nvidia's GeForce GTX 950 graphics card reviewed

So far, 2015 has given us a bounty of high-end graphics cards. If you want to spend somewhere north of three hundred bucks on a graphics card and heck, maybe three times that then you have plenty of shiny new options from which to choose. I've spent a borderline scandalous amount of time testing graphics cards in 4K resolutions in the past six months.

Playing with the fancy toys is nice, but it's not very realistic. The vast majority of PC gamers play at resolutions of 1080p or below, and for the most part, you can get away with using a much more affordable graphics card when you "only" have a couple of megapixels to paint. That's pretty much the rationale behind the GeForce GTX 950, a new entry in Nvidia's graphics card lineup that promises a nice mix of price and performance.

Sapphire R7 370 Nitro Review

Sapphire consistently builds AMD-based video cards that offer a bit extra for your money. In that respect, the R7 370 Nitro is one that delivers 1080p performance on a budget. In five out of nine of the games, we cross up and over the 30FPS range that is deemed playable using moderate settings. In four of the games, however, you will really need to do some tweaking to see just how much eye candy will be reduced to improve the FPS performance of the R7 370 Nitro at 1920 x 1080 to above 30 FPS and beyond.

Tenda AC15 AC1900 Dual-Band WiFi Router Review

It used to be a pretty well understood fact that merging to the 802.11ac wireless standard was an expensive task, with just the thought about having to replace both your router and wireless card made anyone’s wallet shudder, but that was back in 2013. Come back, three years in the future, and we encounter devices like the one Benchmark Reviews has in it’s hands today. The Tenda AC15 AC1900 Router is not only AC capable, but it features a Broadcom’s BCM4708 Wi-Fi chipset capable of delivering speeds of up to 1300 Mbps over the 5 Ghz band. Astonishingly, it comes at only $87.99, which is the lowest price tag we have ever encountered on any AC1900 router.
