Hardware Central has posted a new editorial "The Inside Line: Disappearing Vendors".
Late last week, a large player in the PC market announced that it was leaving the retail computer market and selling its PC division to a private technology-equity investment firm who in turn was looking for a buyer. Even with the recent downturn in the PC market, this news came as somewhat of a shock to most, especially given that the company is such a large player in the PC market and their parent company is in relatively good financial health. Although their sales and margins had declined, early word is that this is purely a transitional move, and one that recognizes the slowdown in PC sales may not have bottomed out.
