I have a box with win2k and a box with win98. Two identical kingston nics. Im trying to network them. The problem is the status light wont light up and in the win2kbox it says that the network cable is unplugged. Everything looks fine in the device manager. The win2kbox has another nic for my cable modem. Ive take then cable modem and tested the network cables and all the nics and the status light turns green and works perfectly. I dont get it why dont the nics power up?

If you're not using a hub or switch between the machines, you'll need to use a "back-to-back" cable - the regular network cable won't work.

Well that really sucks. I need to get a hub then because the cable I have is like 50 feet long and I dont want to buy another. I might as well buy a hub. Thanks for the info yuppiescum I would have been searching newsgroups for the answer for days probobly.
