2194 = RTM

This is a discussion about 2194 = RTM in the Windows Hardware category; Anybody know the build # for RTM? What are the chances that it could be 2194? Thanks πŸ™‚ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

Nope, 2194 is not GOLD.

MS is currently releasing stuff to their FTP servers, so we'll soon know, and post it.

AM I missing something here?? usually the final build and release version arent that different... people are expecting ALL the problems they are having with 2183, 2194 to be solved.. I really doubt that they will if the final release is going to be out in the next week or two.... Maybe Im wrong but I really doubt it. Iv done a fair bit of programming, and man to go back through old code debugging sections adding different libraries and all that crap takes a long f-ing time.. not just a week or two especially with these huge problems.....

But yes by the time it hits the market 2 months from now the DRIERS!! will be much better.

There is a common misconception that just becuase creative and whoever say they dont support the os, that they arent doing **** for drivers.... WRONG!! Most of the buggers are working on win2k programs but its ILLEGAL for them to release actual win2k drivers, its a "pact" that they have to make with MS.

I gota good friend who works with Gig-byte, and tahts exactly what he said. HE told me they got decent drivers already for a lot of their hardware but they are under cotnract from MS to NOT release them until MS says so. usually meaning release date....

JimmyK - Whoa Nellie! Nobody's suggesting that anything will change between 2183 and 2194 that will be even noticeable. The fact that the bloody thing is DONE (except for the 8 service packs over the next 3 years <g> ) and getting a hold of the final RTM version is somewhat satisfying. At that point it will be pretty nice to see hardware companies (e.g. 3com and creative) start releasing drivers. I am looking forward to installing the final version knowing that another beta or rc# will be coming out necessitating a reinstall. I don't read anybody suggesting that the world will change between 2194 and the final, though. Enjoy :):

ahh okay its just that some people always complain about MS OS, and then expect everything to be solved by the latest build, but lil do they know that all their problems are because of the hardware and drivers.

I got a a win2k server thats RC1, with a ghetto vid card, and 2 crappy nic cards. Thats been up for more then 3 months, come on u gotta love that, its freaking rc1 !!!

I gotta tell you I got some mad love for win2k

LOL! I am in the boat of some other users who suffer from driver envy. My 3com usb network adapter and ATI TV Wonder what are keeping me from adopting win2k as my os of choice. Secondarily, no liveware support from Creative and rather shoddy Voodoo3 drivers (my card is NEVER assigned an irq and thus runs 25% slower) further keep me from deleting the win98 partition. I tell you, RTM signals to me the chance for all those companies to finally start working on, or releasing, those drivers. I can't tell you how much I loof forward to dumping win98 :): Take care!
