ALi Alladin V + W2K + AGP Video card = Which card works?
This is a discussion about ALi Alladin V + W2K + AGP Video card = Which card works? in the Windows Hardware category; Ok, so we all are kicking ourselves for not researching the Alladin V chipset before buying. . . . I own a Asus P5A with this chipset and currently run a PCI video setup (Voodoo2). This won't work in Win2000 but I'd like to upgrade.

are there any performace reviews done with socket 7 boards in Win2000?

I have the same motherboard, and also an asus v3800 tnt2 ultra deluxe... it aint working, i've tried so many drivers and they all give me the same results, so if i were you i would stay away from the nvidia cards, my voodoo banshee is working fine, but it just plain sucks... my friend has a voodoo 3 and a p5a and when i tried to install win2k on his system it crashed on install but i dont know if its video related... if i were you i'd just get a new motherboard (maybe an athlon? )
I strongly recommend the usage of an Alladin V chipset with a TNT/TNT2/GeForce card... naaah, just kidding!! Unless you are willing to spend all day long (full time job!) trying to fix this combo...
Actually, from what I've read so far, the Matrox G400 is doing quite well, no major compatibility issues. A Voodoo3 would be my next choice, but you have to realize that it can only kick ass in native Glide. If you have a K6-2/3 CPU this is definately the choice for a Super7 mobo; 3DNow! support is been incorporated into Voodoo drivers for some time now as well...
Stay away from nVidia for now, but as I said, consider Matrox and 3DFx, probably ATI as well...as for S3 Savage I would wipe that one out too....
