Asus V6600 (GeForce) halts everything

This is a discussion about Asus V6600 (GeForce) halts everything in the Windows Hardware category; Running the NVIDIA reference drivers for W2K (build 2195) it locks up tight when I try to test Direct Draw and D3D. No response from the computer at all. I'm running a dual PII-400 on an Asus P2B (bios v1012) with aa Asus v6600 Geforce board.

The NT4 drivers from ASUS (v3.62) works with direct draw, but no D3D. I've tried NVIDIA drivers v3.65, v3.66 and v3.69 with same results everytime.

I even tried to run with default BIOS settings, but no dice.

Any insights and/or ideas to try next??

I have this problem if I don't stop the "distributed.net" RC64 client first.

Ensure that nothing "odd" is running before trying again...

OP
I just tried to do a clean install of build 2195 with only the Asus v6600 Deluxe and ofcouse the onboard stuff on the P2B-DS. Meaning that I physically removed the SBlive and the NIC.

Still got the same response though. When starting dxdiag everything is OK and all directX files are reported OK (no problems).

As soon as I hit Test Direct Draw or D3D and click OK to do the test, it freezes.
