AutoDefrag..silly me!
This is a discussion about AutoDefrag..silly me! in the Windows Software category; From what i read, starting this program without any switches would automatically defrag all your hard drives. All i can get it to do is pull up the defrag console. . . i have to manually start the defrag myself.

Am i missing a key step? doing something wrong? does this work for anyone else?

The defrag utility that Microsoft includes with Windows 2000 is a totally manual solution. You will have to use a third party program or utility, such as Diskeeper to have automatic or scheduled defrags.

OP
Autodefrag is a 3rd party util that is supposed to automate the built in defragmenter. It's freeware, so I can't argue, but right now it provides no more functionality than the built in app.
the autodefrag works fine for me... make sure you have the latest version - it had a bug in one of the earlier ones I heard.
