I run a dual boot, and since I reinstalled win98se, my current modem(LT winmodem OEM from an IBM), locks my 98SE when I(or it) restart(s). Normally I wouldn't really care, but I get different performace depending on the OS, 2k pings better, but 98se get better d/l ...

A couple:
3Com 56K external (non-USB)
3Com Internet Gaming Modem (PCI, and a hardware modem! Only pci modem that I know of that is ALL hardware, no winmodem/software modem here!)
3Com V.Everything Courier modem.
Those are the best ones I know of. Some of the Diamond modems might be worth a look at too.

Thanks man, That Couriur is EXPENSIVE! I'd love to get one, but I can't afford it.
I'll probably end up choosing between the other two, based partially on price.

Where can i find the prices to these things? thx.
Zoom PCI internal modems are also very good - I've got one in each of my machines and they run absolutely troble free with good high speed connections (50.6K on a good day!)
