BP6 + Maxtor 40 gig drive + ata66

This is a discussion about BP6 + Maxtor 40 gig drive + ata66 in the Windows Hardware category; I was wondering if anyone has gotten this combo to work? I just got my maxtor 40 gig the other day and put it in. . . and installed win2k final. I load it on the ata 66 controler and everything seems to work fine.

I was wondering if anyone has gotten this combo to work? I just got my maxtor 40 gig the other day and put it in... and installed win2k final. I load it on the ata 66 controler and everything seems to work fine. Until I get to the point where your background color screen is just about to appear and it locks up. I can go into safe mode on the ata 66 controler but not normal mode. If I move the drive to the ata 33 controler it boots up fine. Also that is using all 40 gig as 1 partition. On one of the loads I put it at 30 gig as the main partition. Am I running into some sort of limitation? The Bios says it can handle 40 gig drives so that is good. If anyone has had any luck with this... please let me know. I guess I will just run ata33 until I figure it out.

If you can get to the point of desktop background appearing, then it is by no mean you mobo, HDD , or HDD controller has to do about this.

There is something bad with your video card, or video card driver and its settings, double check.

Abit found a problem with 36+ gig HD support so they released the new BIOS a few weeks back. Check their site for the fix. If u r not afraid they also released the beta bios that fixes duel processor, ACPI and USB problems with Win2k. THe downside is that u have to reinstall Win2k.
Bioses are available on the ABIT site and beta bios is on the Beta ABIT FTP.
