CD Writers, UDMA and PIO modes

This is a discussion about CD Writers, UDMA and PIO modes in the Windows Hardware category; Hi, I'd like to know which mode recent CD writers are using. According to the BIOS, my HP 8100i is using PIO 3 mode and my DVD player, an AOpen 6/32, is using UDMA. Both are on the second IDE controller, the first one being used for my HDs.

Hi,

I'd like to know which mode recent CD writers are using. According to the BIOS, my HP 8100i is using PIO 3 mode and my DVD player, an AOpen 6/32, is using UDMA. Both are on the second IDE controller, the first one being used for my HDs.

In Win2K, the writer and the DVD player are conflicting because of the difference of modes . In the Device Manager, the DVD player is UDMA and the writer is DMA. If I access one, the PC is blocked. This configuration worked previously with Windows 98.

As I want to change to a 8X CD writer, I'd like to know which mode is using the Plextor PlexWriter 8/4/32A. I'm especially interested in UDMA CD writers, if it exists.

I cannot afford using an external IDE controller (like the HotRod or FastTrak) and I don't want to switch to SCSI either.

Thanks for your answer.

Regards,
SNARK
