What might help you is to type-"help" in a dos prompt. This lists all the dos commands. Im not sure about the things you are asking about though.

I would have thought I should be able to **** it down or reboot it via the com. prompt
Eh? Why did it block s.h.u.t?

You probably misspelled it with an I instead of a U

You probably mis-typed it or something.
As for shutting down your machine there is a prog called shutdown.exe which is available on the Win2k Resource Kit. I believe there's also a shareware file that does the same floating around somewhere. I think it can do both shutdown and restart, but I'm not sure on this.

Shutdown/Reboot -- shutdown.exe from the resource kit.
process/ram/cpu -- pmon.exe from the support tools (somewhere on the W2K CD)
