Disabling VIA Tech CPU to AGP Controller
This is a discussion about Disabling VIA Tech CPU to AGP Controller in the Windows Hardware category; HI. I have an Abit KT7A-RAID mobo, with a Geforce2 GTS by Leadtek. When I had Win2000, I did not install the Via's CPU to AGP Controller because once I did, every program that used my video card (tv tunner, games, opening mpeg and avi movies, etc) would cause an instant lockup as soon as I launched them.
HI. I have an Abit KT7A-RAID mobo, with a Geforce2 GTS by Leadtek. When I had Win2000, I did not install the Via's "CPU to AGP Controller" because once I did, every program that used my video card (tv tunner, games, opening mpeg and avi movies, etc) would cause an instant lockup as soon as I launched them. The weird thing is that while the mouse and video froze, the sound would keep going.
I am now using WinXP RC2, and it automatically installs the VIA CPU to AGP Controller. Again, I run into the same kind of lockups when this is installed. When I remove the CPU to AGP Controller, it also removes my Geforce 2 driver, and sets back to the basic windows display driver at 640x480. I did try it in the basic display driver mode, and videos worked without freezing, but looked bad since they were in 256 color.
After restarting, it automatically detects my Geforce2 and reinstalls it (which is good) but then also installs the CPU to AGP Controller again (which is bad). And again the lockups occur. I have tried using the "do not use this device" option, but that disables my Geforce and makes me stay with the basic display drivers. Any idea how to remove the CPU to AGP Controller and keep my Geforce2? Thanks!!!

But I got along fine without it in Win2000. I installed all the 4in1 stuff except for the agp driver, and it worked fine. But when I install the agp is screwes it up.
?? Windows 2000 included the VIAGART. You install the 4-in-1's to update it...just like in XP.
In Windows 2000/XP depending on your mobo it's common practice to ONLY install the AGP driver. Although the AGP/busmaster has different results on different mobo's.

hey do u know what could be a problem? i had this problem and thats y i had to wipe Windows XP because my Nvidia Drivers wont working and i got too pissed off.. in the bios make sure ur vga boot sequence is AGP/PCI because having PCI/AGP disables the agp port and that could be y ur video freezes when u install the PCI/AGP controller
