well it fixed some issues with the button styles for me .. was getting lots of overdraw in menu areas with 2410, 2416 seems to have that licked on my tnt2 system

Other than that, a bit of refinements here and there.. and more updates to the setup program

still playing with it will keep posted of any earthshattering differences

On the same subject, my wife, who once subscribed to the MSDN (or whatever it is now), is going to start doing so again.

She has no interest in running Whistler on her machine, but I'm curious about running it on mine.

My machine's kinda dated; a PII 333Mhz. But Win2K runs much better and faster on it (especially now with 192MB RAM) than Win9x. The code for Whistler, still being in beta, probably hasn't been optimized for speed yet, so it might make a significant difference in how it operates on my machine. Anyway, that's my guess.

Is anyone here presently running Whistler on such a low-end machine, and how is it doing?

I have problems with a few games, with both 2416 and 2419. Giants freezes and drops to desktop if I press escape (maybe a dialog box I cant see?) and Oni the mouse is very laggy. Diablo 2 works fine though, but thats not a 3D game (at least not a real one)

OP
I have EXACTLY THE SAME problems. Even with 2419 NFS 5 drops back to desktop.

I cannot install Nvidia Detonator driver beyond 6.34 without having a flashing screen all the time.

Awesome. This should be an interesting release.

Get ready for a shock tho, I'm reading that the GUI is gonna be....quite different. Shame too, I was just starting to get used to the snazzy Whistler GUI.

I'm a tester, it's not going to be different. Just better, more customizable and very malleable, which will cause almost infinite UI possibilites, from high or low color icons, modes, menus, skins, colors, styles, fonts, etc.

cool cool. I look forward to running it when it comes out. Maybe the Hollywood+ issue might be fixed but probably not.

yeah, bug the manufacturer then, it ain't MS's problem. Believe it or not, I don't really care which you think, MS gets about 90 % of their drivers from the manufacturers, so if a device is not working, bug the manufacturer

Unless the manufacturer is Creative Labs, then you might see driver releases about 6 monthes after the RTM of XP.
