That is not a very good method, it will be best for you to open up the case and examine both sides of the modem card to look for any writing on the card itself or writing on white stickers on the card. and then post it ALL here.
tis true without at least knowing the manufacturer of the modem very little anyone can do to assist you is the modem detected at all in win2k? even as an unknown or disabled device?
your lucky you skipped NT4!
I had massive problems with a modem called PCI56RVP I had to search for UK specific drivers, the others from the TINY CD just didn't work. Eventually I found them and they had been called fcc.zip on their ftp site. Not very Uk is it?
Try the NT4 ones them here http://www.euankirkhope.freeserve.co.uk/oldstuff/modem.htm
or look for win2k drivers on http://www.e-tech.com.tw/
I don't use the modem any more becuase it was a "WINMODEM" and it was crap, and I ran out of PCI slots!

ne1 got an ess modem to work on win2k..
one of my friends has an ess 56k pci but doesn't have the drivers... he's been looking for quite some time now.

i checked in win 2k and the modem has these ?! symbols next to it and saying mutimedia communicsions device.
