Try upgrading the ASPI support, that fixed DVD playback on my NEC drive I think you can grab them from Adaptec's site or www.dvdutils.com

The old builds could not play DVD media well. What build is your Windows 2000?

Did you get the Win DVD with your Creative 5X DVD? I got that with my Creative GeForce and it runs well in Windows 2000. My old Power DVD program did not play DVDs in Windows 2000. What program are you using?

No, its showing hidden files, here are the properties of the dvd disc that i was using, i was using the Matrix.

Label: THE_MATRIX_16X9LB_N_AMERICA
Type: Compact Disk
File System: UDF
Used Space: 7.81GB
Free Space: 0

I don't think UDF is the DVD format file system.

That is what you posted before. I'm kind of confused...what DVD drive is giving you probs?

sorry for not being specific, the DVS DVD ROM, not the creative 5x.

OK, go to...

Control Panel, Admin Tools, Comp Manage, Storage, Physical Locations.

Right click the DVD device and select properties.

Click the "Media" tab, and then choose all the supported mdia types...

That should do it...(might need a reboot)

I did what you said but it said:

"The medium is not compatible with device or media pool."

Its like the DVD drive isn't even a DVD drive. Windows 2000 only sees it as a standard CD ROM, its pissing me off. I can't find drivers for it anywhere. I am going to pull the dvd drive and get the FCC ID and anything that might help and i'll put it up here.

I'm sure you may have already done this but:
1. Have you updated the firmware of the DVD?
2. Tried other DVD's?...or checked the docs on the DVDs to make sure your DVD was supported.
3. Disable DMA and try it.
4. Give up and use your other DVD...hehehe.

Ok, i went to the site that was listed on the drive itself: www.dvs.co.kr
I downloaded drivers for it:
520ha17.zip
its contents are as follows:

Files:

AA17DVD.MOT
BA17DVD.MOT
readme.kor
readme.txt
UPGRADE.EXE

The README file reads:

-----------------------------
DSR-520H Firmware Upgrade
-----------------------------

You can get better performance of the DSR-520H DVD-ROM drive with
the new and higher version firmware.

* CAUTION
Please do not use this firmware for other DVD-ROM drives.

1. Before Upgrade Firmware

(1) What you need. (files)

Down program file : UPGRADE.EXE
firmware file : AAxxDVD.MOT for A Hardware
: BAxxDVD.MOT for B gardware
'xx' is firmware version.

(2) What you need to know.

Down program (UPGRADE.EXE) reads the firmware file and download
to the flash memory of the DVD-ROM drive.

This Down program does not work with Windows 95/98. You need
to boot your PC with 'Command Prompt Only mode' of Windows 95/98
or 'DOS'.

2. Firmware Upgrade Procedure

(1) Boot your PC with 'DOS' or 'Command Prompt Only mode'

(2) Using 'cd' command, go to the directory which the 'UPGRADE.EXE'
and 'AAxxDVD.MOT' and 'BAxxDVD.MOT' files are in.

(3) Type 'UPGRADE' and enter.

(ex.) C:\temp_dwn>UPGRADE

This will automatically upgrade your DVD-ROM drive firmware.

* CAUTION
Please avoid shut down of your PC power or interrupt of the
above firmware upgrade procedure, these can cause serious
damage on the DVD-ROM drive.

(4) After firmware upgrade finished, please reset your PC.
-END OF FILE-
-----------------------
The thing is, UPGRADE.EXE crashes, and it didn't come with a frickin .inf file

like i expected. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Time for me to ask another stupid question! But I gotta ask!

You sure you did this in DOS mode right? Not in a DOS window?

It would be great if this new firmware fixed your prob.

In Device manager does it say DVD/CD-ROM drive? Don't need to pull your hair out because you can't watch the Matrix We are T-minus 12 days and counting till the big bang. I think you can wait a little longer for Creative to release the W2K drivers for the DVD drive. You think I ENJOY listening to my Sound Blaster Live with only 2 speakers active? I think you can wait alittle bit longer hehe

I give up! The easiest way to solve this problem would be to e-mail the manufacturer. Other than disabling UDMA for that drive in the bios (it doesn't use it anyway), deleting the DVD from device manager and letting NT reinstall it upon reboot, or moving the DVD to another IDE configuration. I have nothing else to recommend! Good luck!!!
