256MB is really smooth, while 128MB can be kind of a dog. Personally, I just ordered another 512MB from Crucial for my server. By the time I am done I should have 384MB in my main workstation and 640MB in my Win2K AS box.

hey bud, yeah throw some win2k action on that, heck if u make it an NTFS partition u might even get better performance, and u know ur gonna get much better security and reliability with a NTFS partition, but yeah u might wanna think about upping that ram to a minimum of 256. BUT 192 will do VERY nicely.

pr-man, Win2k should run pretty well on your system. For RAM, 192mb is pretty good but I agree with Clutch and JimmyK on adding more RAM. Win2k run faster with more RAM. I am additional 128mb on my computer. I just bought 128 mb of PC-133 from Crucial for $61 after tax.

i'm running 640mb here, honestly i didn't notice a difference in speed other than games loading maps and photoshop after i upgraded from 384mb to 640mb, you'll notice a big difference going from 64 to 128 to 192 to 256.

Should be okay, I'd definately bump up the RAM to 256 or even 384. Plus the RAM you need is dirt cheap anyway.

definatly get as much ram as you can afford. I noticed a big diff going from 256 to 512.

Isn't that overkill? I mean I have 192MB of Ram in my system, but 640?? Please explain any reason for having that much (unless you are running SQL or some other thing...)

Maybe for:

1-loading HUGE images, resizing them, appliying filters with photoshop

2-FOr emulators

3-For large SOUNDFonts (I've seen a 256 MB sf2 somewhere).

4-3D gfx cards using AGP port will benefit from extra memory for textures.

5-For Fun

6-Huge databases

7-RAMDRIVE. IT's great when you set your temp folder to a Ramdisk of 128 MB.

(But, actually, My system works fine with "only" 128 MB)

I'm going to ditch my two generic pc-100 64 meggers for a couple of pc-133 256 meg dimms. Heck they can be had on price watch for as low as $65 a piece. Can't beat a deal like that.
