Win2k doesn't have a any real installation options. You can remove a FEW things after it's installed, but nothing major.

I know Win2k will run with 32mb, thought I don' tknow if it will run on a 166. You best bet in the NT line would be NT4...

if you want to display the hidden add/remove programs from windows you have to edit the sysoc.inf to allow you to. I know i have a hacked version that allows you to remove crap like games, and the other junk that gets installed when you dont want it. e-mail me or ICQ me for the file.

Microsoft docs state that Win2kpro can be installed on a machine with a Pentium 133 processor (must assume Intel here), recommended 64 meg ram and the 2 gigs of space is plenty for the hard drive. They want a minimum of 650 mb.

The only problem might be that your laptop's 166 processor is a pared down version for mobile computing and may not be compatible with Win2k. If you try and install win2k on the laptop, make sure you run the file "winnt32/checkupgradeonly" command on the cd. This will generate a compatibility report on the hardware and software on your laptop. If they pass the compat, then you should be good to go.

If you just need to access some features of Active Directory on a 2000 network and the laptop isn't capable of the full install, then install the Directory Services Client for win9x. Make sure you have IE4.01 or greater and Active Desktop enabled. Then run "\clients\win9x\dsclient.exe" on the 2000 cd.

Hope this helps

Win2K [esp. Pro] is totally built for laptops, with the power altering stuff. This is obviously somthing you don't need, but Win2K has an option that lets you tell it what kind of machine it is on [i forget where, I'll post again if I remember], i.e. laptop, workstation, server, terminal, etc.

I would definiately run the checkupgrade utlity though.
