I have tried those software solutions before and none of them can recover deleted items unless you already have the program installed at the time of deletion of the file. I suggest you contact the people at www.drivesavers.com to see if they can help you. It might be a bit pricey but if you really have critical data to recover they can help.
Errmm... no. The software solutions work just fine and are a helluva lot cheaper provided you haven't already overwritten the data.
There is a program called Fast File Undelete (FFU) at http://www.dtidata.com which does cost some money, but not really a huge lot, and a trial version is available.
There are some other ones available but I can't remember their names. There was a thread on this topic before. Try searching for it.
