How to change default folder icon?

This is a discussion about How to change default folder icon? in the Windows Software category; I know there was a way to change the default folder icon used in explorer, but I can't seem to change it in Windows 2K. I have used a couple of shareware apps that are supposed to change the icon, but to no avail.

I know there was a way to change the default folder icon used in explorer, but I can't seem to change it in Windows 2K. I have used a couple of shareware apps that are supposed to change the icon, but to no avail. The same ugly yellow folder is still there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!!

OP
yeah, I have tried that program, but to no Avail! But I think I might know why. I am running an alternate shell and not the windows 2000 default shell. That might be what is causing the problem. I am running the shell Darkstep.

Hi, Donald2B.

Try this URL:
http://www.pcforrest.freeserve.co.uk/driveico.htm

There's a complete description there that lets you determine the icon that's displayed, drive by drive and folder by folder. It's probably not a great way to accomplish changing ALL folders, however. But there might well be links to freeware or shareware on that site that could help. (I saw one link to e-icons there, but I saw your message stating that it didn't work for you.)

Hope you find a solution.

Regards,
Jim
