Try TweakUI. That's the only way I've been able to do it.

OP
Thanks but I don't see any mention of disabling autorun cd in tweak UI, can you point me to that, TIA
There are two options - Play data CDs automatically, and play audio cds automatically. I'm using the TweakUI from http://seldzar.dhs.org
Hope that helps!

Do what they have said...
meanwhile, there is a temporary method to disable the autorun.
Press on shift when you insert your CD into your CDROM drive. But you have to do this everytime you insert a CD.

Try Xsetup, get it from 3dfiles. It has tons of cool things, including disabling autorun...
I like Tweaki. You can get it here: http://www.jermar.com/prod01.htm
It can disable auto insert notification and much, much more.

Set the following registry to '0'
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom]
"Autorun"=dword:00000001
