You could boot from the CD.

Also you could tell us your system config.

And finally, tell us what the fscking error message is.

This forum seems to be turning into the bloody Kreskin show...maybe I'll change my nick to "Uri Geller"...jeez

System config ideally should be more than "Acer Notebook" - see above.

Does the same error occur if you boot from the W2K CD?

Have you turned off any "virus checking" features in the BIOS of the machine? They can sometimes be misdiagnosed by/interfere with the install process.

And finally - there may be a bootblock virus which would not nesseccarily mis-spelt but i've had no coffee yet) go away just because you've reformatted.

Im pretty sure that you do not have the full retail, because if you did you would know how to boot off the CD. Since I am in a good mood I will tell you how to do it. Copy the i386 dir to your HD and then run the winnt.exe this will start the install process. If you know how to install smartdrive i highly suggest you do.
