ICS (Sygate) with W2K

This is a discussion about ICS (Sygate) with W2K in the Windows Software category; My server is running Win2K server 2128 and Sygate 3. 1 for Internet Connection Sharing. The 98SE clients all work wonderfully but I can't get my 2195 Win2K Pro to use the connection. (You can ping internet IP addresses via the server, but not DNS names) If Sygate works, is there something obvious that I'm missing? ...

If Sygate works, is there something obvious that I'm missing? All i've done on the client side is provide the DNS details as the IP of the server which was fine for 98.

If it doesn't work, is there another ICS program out there that does and is any good? Don't suggest the built in one as it's crap and doesn't provide me with the control I need.

IP by DHCP (from Win2K, not Sygate)
DNS as IP of server
No gateway
No WINS

Think that's it!

I would set the IP Address manuel
IP Address. . . . . . :192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask . . . . . :255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . :192.168.0.1

I've used Sygate and W2k's ICS, and I got better performance from the latter. I'm not sure what "control" you're looking for, but the ICS is far from crap.

I use sygate on an NT4/sp5 puter and get about a 2ms delay, not slow if you ask me. SHS is right, set the sygate pc to 192.168.0.1 gateway/ip and give the other systems seperate 192.168.0.x ip's. I've had problems (no transfer) using 192.168.0.1 for dns with win2k, put in the dns #'s from my isp and all is well.

Didn't work SHS!

As for what control i'm looking for.... well.... it all revolves around being in the UK and having to pay for my calls during the week. I have 3 different net connections for weekdays, saturdays and sundays and I want the weekday ones to time out after a certain time, and the weekend ones to stay connected. Using ICS I have to go to the server and change which connection it uses.

It would work I know, but I want automation.

Okie Dokie. Have you tried going the manual settings route yet?? Here we go. . On the server pc Try:

I/p : 192.168.0.1
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS: Put in your the Primary/secondary #'s your isp assigned to you (Important!)

All this is configurable in the TCP/IP properties. Also disable any Wins and LMHOSTS lookup. And do the DNS thing! When I entered 192.168.0.1 for dns on this computer (Win2k btw) I got no Transfer but could ping.

On the clients:

I/P: beggining in order from 192.168.0.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS: Same settings as server

If this does'nt fix it try pinging some DNS names and your DNS server from each client. Right now I'm pretty sure the DNS is the problem, and if you don't know the server address you can ignore this
