Most stable NVidia driver?

This is a discussion about Most stable NVidia driver? in the Windows Hardware category; Whats the most stable NVidia driver? I've got a Creative TNT2 Ultra, and my system is unstable as hell. Whats the most stable NVidia driver? I've got a Creative TNT2 Ultra, and my system is unstable as hell. I'm currently running 3.84, but I don't find them more stable then the others. When playing games my computer suddenly freezes after a while, and I've got to reboot. I'm running WinME too, and my computer never freezes in WinME, but I think Win2k is so much better. So, any suggestions? I've tried all the 5.x drivers except the 5.25

I suggest you clean install and quickly install the latest 5.xx(5.25) driver. that always worked for me.. whenever I had driver problems related to the video, for some strange reason the clean install worked the best.. No amount of driver reinstalling/safemode installs, file swapping, worked when I had that string of buggy video drivers.. not until I clean installed did the latest versions of the detonators start working..

My criteria of working drivers is a bit limited though...

HL/CS
Video's
Misc Opengl games/demos
nfs5.

I haven't even tried q3 or ut to test my stability.. I figure what I don't use won't kill me..

the w2k tnt saga continues..

I myself have an Asus Geforce, but I'm havin' the same troubles as you are. I've heard rumors of a set of drivers (3.66) that seem to be the only salvation for people in our situation, but I'll be damned if I can find them anywhere!! The 3.68 drivers may also work but I haven't tried either to be sure. If ANYONE knows where to find them, PLEASE do tell (and please don't say reactorcritical.... they're not there). I used to be able to use the Asus 3.79's but now they won't even boot into w2k..... strange.

Ive got an asus geforce and im running 5.22, not a single problem. Although, when I think about it, every driver including all the beta drivers from 3.79, ive had no problems with at all. Stableness of drivers seems to be dependant on system configuration and the hardware in your pc, not the drivers themselfs. If a fresh install of windows fixes a problem of stability, that means youve done or something has gone wrong with your windows...

a lot of people's problems could be related to AGP drivers, BIOS revisions and the voltage on the board. If the card isnt getting the right voltage then that could be reason for the freezes. Plus Win2k is a lot more picky about the afformentioned items.

OP
Did a fresh install a couple of days ago and installed the 5.22 drivers right away, but it's still unstable. So it wasn't my windows that was messed up

ThC 129: Thanks for the tip, I'll try to get some new AGP drivers and stuff

To be honest I'd say the one that came with win2k. Why? Because theres no agp, no d3d and little ddraw acceleration, therefore theres not much to go wrong.

and com and lpt i/o conflict error during bios startup.
Hardware fault caused by win2k beta3 and dodgy bios, now irrepairable.

I tend to agree with euankirkhope, the less features a driver supports the less problems that usually occur!! Anyways, I found a copy of the 3.69 driver set and I realized that AGP is completely disabled in OGL.... maybe that's why the old drivers fix incompatibilities with Athlon's. The only problems I have with the newer drivers is with Half-Life, but it (as well as AGP 2x) worked fine in Win98 so I also have to agree with ThC about 2000's pickiness. Ahhh well, maybe someday my computer will be at peace with its own components.
