MS Sidewinder Gamepad

This is a discussion about MS Sidewinder Gamepad in the Windows Hardware category; Ok, this seems odd (potentially dumb) so please tell me what I'm not seeing. I have the gold version of 2000, and I'm trying to install my MS Sidewinder Gamepad (not USB, not Pro, just gamepad). I tried going to MS site and downloading the latest software and drivers.

Ok, this seems odd (potentially dumb) so please tell me what I'm not seeing. I have the "gold" version of 2000, and I'm trying to install my MS Sidewinder Gamepad (not USB, not Pro, just gamepad). I tried going to MS site and downloading the latest software and drivers. On every win2k system I've tried the installation fails. Ok, I figured they MUST have included MS drivers in an MS O/S??? Yet under game controllers its not listed. Is it for you guys?? I'm not new to computers, I'm not new to win2k so please answer accordingly. I've tried searching computer for inf files, to no avail. If anyone knows which inf file it uses (name, location?), or can point me to a solution I'd love to hear it. Thans in advance.

By gold version you mean Build 2195? Just try to download the Windows NT4 drivers for the MS Sidewinder if there are any, they sometimes work.

You don't need NT4 drivers - everything you need is right on the CD.

Go to Control Panel, Game Controllers and click Add. Now scoll the list until you get to "Microsoft SideWinder (Auto Detect)". Select that and click OK.

See, not all that difficult...
