MX300 sound output

This is a discussion about MX300 sound output in the Windows Software category; In Win2000 Pro, my MX300 is deteced and configured seemingly properly as Vortex Multifunction Parent, Aureal Vortex 8830 Audio (WDM), and Aureal Vortex Game Port. Unfortunately, the card sounds as if it's adding a loud buzz filter to whatever it plays.

In Win2000 Pro, my MX300 is deteced and configured seemingly properly as Vortex Multifunction Parent, Aureal Vortex 8830 Audio (WDM), and Aureal Vortex Game Port. Unfortunately, the card sounds as if it's adding a loud buzz filter to whatever it plays. The card worked fine when I first installed the OS but began this weird behaviour today. Any suggestions?

Uninstall the card from device manager and ensure any driver files were removed. Then reboot and let windows install it again.

OP
I believe I've tried that. How do I ensure that all the drivers were completely removed?
