Network Card Driver Question

This is a discussion about Network Card Driver Question in the Windows Hardware category; I have been experimenting with different drivers for my Linksys nic (lne100tx). After fooling around I have reinstalled the original built-in driver that comes with win2k a few times. In device manager it is listed something like LNE100TX Fast Ethernet #4.

I have been experimenting with different drivers for my Linksys nic (lne100tx). After fooling around I have reinstalled the original "built-in" driver that comes with win2k a few times. In device manager it is listed something like "LNE100TX Fast Ethernet #4". Every time I reinstall it, the number gets incremented. It works so this is not a huge problem, but I want to know how to get rid of it. Also, I want to make sure that it is not trying to load it 4 times. I have booted into safe mode thinking I would find 1, 2, & 3 there but they were not (I think win98 used to do that). If anybody knows how to make it just say the name of the device and no number, please post.

Also, ever since I installed a router for my cable modem, the first time I use IE it tells me no connection was found, do I want to work offline or try again? After clicking try again, it works fine for the remainder of my windows session. Again, this is not the end of world because it works, but it is darn annoying! Is there a setting to disable this?

its Because win2k still thinks that the old card is installed, which means you didnt uninstall it properly when you installed the new card
