This is a discussion about nfs4 reade this in the Windows Games category; i had to install nfs4 in win 98. To resolve the patchrestart problem in nfs4 do a shortcut to the nhs4. exe and add -d3d1 It worked for me!!!! Hope that this helps.

didn't work for me, I got an error saying that the files are corrupted, please reinstall
process: had NFSHS installed under win98, exported reg. entries, imported in Win2k, ran nfshs.exe, and got the PatchRestart error, tried adding -d3d1 and got the corrupt files error

How about playing the game without the CD? I have plenty of hard drive space.
