NT 4.0 and new Dell w/SCSI drive?

This is a discussion about NT 4.0 and new Dell w/SCSI drive? in the Windows Hardware category; I have two new Dell machines. One is a XPS-B733r the other is a XPS-T700r. Both have the Quantum Atlas 10K (18gig) hard drive and Adaptec 2940u2 controller. I eventually got NT on these machines by making Disks and skipping the auto detection process and then feeding it the adaptec driver.

I have two new Dell machines. This is the only way it would detect the hard drive in the machines. Booting off the CD and/or original Disks wouldn't work.
Anyway, everything else went smooth (i.e video drivers,NT sp 3-6,etc) until I tried to get IE5.0 to install on them. I can get 4.01sp1 to install, but not 5.0. the download goes fine but then I get "setup was unable to install all componets. Close all aplication and try running setup again". there are no application running during this setup error.
I swapped in a 2940uw and maxtor SCSI II hard drive and the install goes as it should. There is something about the Atlas 10K/2940u2 combo with these machines that is choking the IE5.0 install. If anyone has any hints or tips I would appreciate the assistance very much.
