NT 4.0, DX5 & Q3?
This is a discussion about NT 4.0, DX5 & Q3? in the Windows Games category; After reading about this beta directx5 for NT, I'm wondering if Quake3 will run better or run at all on my pc. I have a Dual 366@605 setup and a TNT2 ultra running nvidia's reference drivers. Any help is appreciated.

To my knowledge, Q3T, or the upcoming Q3A, does not use DX of any flavor, in any way (corrections welcome).
What will make for a better Q3T on your machine is an improved implementation of SMP support. Although it currently works, it isn't optimized...yet.
You should simply make sure that all your device drivers support SMP, then you'll have all the fun.

I have a similar hardware setup (just clocked to 550) and Quake 3 runs very fast; faster than it does in win9x.
The only major drawback is the lack of USB support or ps2rate for a faster mouse port polling / smooth graphics. It's very chunky.
I may be wrong - there may be ps2rate or a USB driver for NT 4 that I'm not aware of. Please correct me if so, so I don't have to wait for win2k, and I can junk win9x for good!
