We've decided to look into this field and I was wondering if anybody here had or has something that they feel works well.

Am I completely misunderstanding your question or are you asking for third party VPN software. 2k has a VPN server included with it. If I'm misunderstanding what you are asking please excuse me.

A lot of that depends on your firewall setup. How are you connected to the internet now? Some systems work in parallel of your firewall, others are imbedded.
