W2k+GeForce+UT/Q3A memory problem
This is a discussion about W2k+GeForce+UT/Q3A memory problem in the Windows Games category; Thanx to Greggy for his reply, his solution worked pretty well for me. (W2k+GeForce+OpenGL+UT thread. . . ) However, I have another problem now. Everytime I start up UT or Q3A the games take some time to precache files.

However, I have another problem now. Everytime I start up UT or Q3A the games take some time to precache files. You ought to think everything runs smoothly now. Instead, on map startup i have a significant increase in memory to harddrive swapping. The only solution to fix this was upgrading from 128 MB RAM to 256 MB. However my second ´puter doesn´t have any RAM now and I can´t afford
to buy another 128 MB SDRAM. Does anyone know how to prevent swapping with only 128 MB? Thanx in advance

Welcome to the M$ Windows upgrade treadmill...
Unfortunately, I too found that 128Mb of RAM was not enough to get the game performance I wanted from Windows 2000. I now have 256Mb and will never go back.
However, it seems as though Windows 2000 gaming rigs with 3DFx cards (eg Voodoo3 or Banshee) don't seem to suffer as much if they 'only' have 128Mb of RAM - but remember they can't yet use 32bit colour which is always a bit of a killer to game performance.
